Fallout 3 vs. Reality: Photo Comparison

I think it could have been interesting if, instead of reducing the size of DC to fit in a small wasteland setting, they actually had the entire game take place in the ruins of DC at a more reasonable scale. Now, even they did this they'd probably find plenty of ways to screw it up, but I think it would be interesting to set a post-apoc game within the burnt out ruins of a city. Maybe this way they would have found some time to flesh out some of the monuments a bit and make them worthwhile to visit (Capitol Building was just pathetic). Plus, they probably could have created less immersion breaking world "barriers" than they have in the game right now.

Why? The system they had quite worked very nicely in morrowind with a "transportation system" and it made a lot more sense compared to the instant teleport travel system in Fallout 3.

I wish I knew why Beth moved away from the MW style of travel. Having the silt striders and boats made perfect sense, and the time elapsed during your trips on them added realism. Also, you eventually learned the proper travel routes, and I never found navigation a chore.

In Oblivion and FO3, it just seems so "gamey" to me.

It takes time and resources to develope a somewhat authentic and working travel system. Its easier to just slap a "fast travel" option inside. And cause a lot of people never stoped complaining about that they had to walk around. It feelt just to frustrating for them.

Definitely laziness. The original statues are not that easy to do. They did the same with the ornaments of the columns on the National Archives, they left them out.

I'm in DC a lot, and I thought that the look they got down was one of the better things in the game. The Metro stations were really spot on. It's was pretty hilarious to run through a ruined copy of a route that I walk through all the time, but get to shoot people.... oh and by the way, all the metro stops pretty much look the same IRL, at least the subterranean ones.

Another thing I liked was the 495 interchange; the ruined overpasses look very familiar, the Smithsonian museums... uhh, I definitely didn't find everything before I stopped playing it though.

the re-imagined fountain kinda sucks though. not that i care about it. But yeah, it looks way too medieval.
