Fallout 3 will, y'know, like...not be at E3

In a recent audio-interview with Stephen Glicker of Gaming Steve Pete Hines revealed Fallout 3 will not be showcased at E3 (at 71:30). This, for those still hopeful we might see Fallout 3 soon, puts the Fallout 3 release date anywhere from 2007 onwards. I'll transcribe it for those unwilling to download two hours of mp3 just to hear these bits:
Gaming Steve: Let's get to a few other quick things that Bethesda is working on. Because you guys are doing two of the greatest licenses of all time. Fallout 3, which I know everyone is so excited about.
Pete Hines: As are we.
GS: Anything we're going to see? Are we going to see something at E3 maybe?
PH: Nope.
GS: Nope?
PH: Nope.
GS: Nothing...?
PH: Mum's the word for a while. We don't believe in...y'know, if we had our choice we probably wouldn't have said anything about it yet. You know, much like Oblivion were we didn't...y'know, we had been working on it for quite a while before we ever said "hey, here's what we're doing and here's some screenshots." like this with a game of psych, y'know, here's...So, y'know, we're treating Fallout with the same sort of...with the same sort of approach that, y'know, this is our franchise and we're acting as if, y'know, we made the first two games, like this is, y'know, we spend a certain amount of time, we spent a lot of effort in pre-production and in making sure we know how systems work and we're not in a hurry to just quick get this game out the door, like, it needs the appropriate amount of time and attention and once we get it to a point where we have some things we could show and show folks what we're up to, we'll certainly let everybody know, but that time is not now.
Spending time making sure you know how the systems work? Uhm, ok, just make sure you also spend time, y'know, like, making sure you don't fuck up the game's world.

Transcribed literally to show, y'know, like, that Pete's not really a...a...a spoken word kind of PR guy. Because it's funny.

I'll edit it into normal written English if it's too annoying.

Well , I am not suprised since they have not released Oblivion yet. My predictions for FO3 - beginning of 2008

They probably have nothing done... y' know... just pretending there is something done... y' know.

That was incredibly annoying in the other audio interview as well.
You'd expect someone from marketing to actually, y'know, be like, decent at, like, speaking in, y'know, public.

As he said they would play F1 and 2 first (and with the obvious inteligence level shown here by this conversation :P ) they are probably still looking for the water chip :|

WICH means sadly the year F2 ended will be the year F3 will be released :|

...much like the Baluvian (?)...

"Much like Oblivion," Kharn.

After that miserable intro to Gaming Steve; how anyone can utter "the home of intelligent gaming discussion" befuddles me.

That's a lot of "y'knows". Clearly, that shows his intelligence level and competence for a PR person.

He talks like that and he's put in a position where public speaking is supposed to be important?

Why cant I have that job? I use redundant, annoying phrases all the time in normal speech and I'm not a PR representative.

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

Its like I used to say back when I worked in public oriented jobs, to become manager you must attain one simple thing... less I.Q. The higher up the chain you go the lower on the I.Q. you go.
(In civi jobs now, government and others are different)

Guys, ease the pressure on them a bit and have at least some faith in them. Give them a chance to make it right: Had they (y'know) tried to rush the game, we all would have rightfully accused them of not taking things seriously enough.

I was a long time active fan of Master of Orion 3 during its development, I know what an over-enthusiastic fanbase can do to a game. Have you ever played MoO3? It's horrible! Because the devs tried to appease the rabid fans in all aspects possible, the end product contined lots and lots of really clever things, and wasn't any fun at all.

Let's at least wait with the bashing until there's something more concrete - by crying out every time any snippet about FO3 makes it to the public, we're just starting an inflation and our voice will be that much less heard when there's something really worth shouting about.

I for one am happy that a team with experience, proper funding, the will and time to make things right, and a fan of the franchise is developing FO3. It is much better than the series just dying and certainly better than many other studios would have been. Let's get over the fact that the old FO team members didn't get the license and be happy our baby has been adopted by new parents (who obviously, y'know, don't wanna rush things, which is a good thing, IMHO).

To appease the general public, you must degenerate your IQ to their level...

I.e, the general public is dumb, and those who do not class in this 'general public' need not worry as being classed dunces.

I couldn't agree more with Gnol. I'm sick and tired of the bashing done by Fallout fans. Every tiny little snippet of information is followed by a torrent of sarcastic sneers from the community. Jesus, don't you have anything better to do? It's still just a game!

I remember a few years back, when Fallout 3 was first rumored to be in production, and fans were all "They better not do this, and they better not do that". Do you really think Fallout 2 is the be all, end all of computer RPGs?! It's a great game, but for heaven's sake, the world moves on. Especially the computer and gaming world. Changing perspective or graphics doesn't necessarily make or break a game. Neither does a different interpretation of the game world. I could go on and on argumenting for this, but I'm afraid it would fall for deaf ears. So I'll be blunt: Fallout 3 will under no circumstance be a carbon copy of one and two.

Yes, the world will change. And yes, so will probably everything else in the game. But the point is we can't tell right now if it'll be for the better or not. Deal with it!

On a final note, I'm really starting to wonder if some of the people here really want Fallout 3. To me it seems more like you want to cuddle up with your Fallout box in hand, thumb in your mouth, and rock back and forth while cursing Bethesda for screwing up the one game that keeps you clinging to life.
