Fallout 4's weapons lacking variety?

Designs and such aside, does anyone find the lack of weapons annoying?

I mean, technically all you want is the highest DPS, because DT doesn't exist, but there's so many missing weapons!

NV had lever action shotguns, LMG's, brushguns, hunting revolvers, 12.7mm SMG's, all kinds of nice weapons.

But just about every Fallout 4 player uses the same shit every time, dakkaspamming AR's and legendary 2x shot snipers/gauss.

Just seems lazy, and don't get me started on the energy weapons...
 
Yes, I find it irritating. more so because the combat has been frequently lauded as an "improvement" over NV despite:
  • a severe lack in gun variety (was it 30 total guns?)
  • 4 total melee weapons
  • 2 unarmed weapons
  • less energy weapons
  • lack of DT
  • lack of different ammo types
  • bullet sponges
  • simple "one way only" crafting system
  • "enemy has mutated"
  • the "drop grenade" button is mapped to the same button as the melee button on consoles.
  • "legendary" weapons
  • almost every weapon feels exactly the same
the only real improvement to the combat is that molerats dig and radroaches crawl on the walls.

The base game of "FO"4 is less than a mediocre game on it's own. We all can say for sure, they didn't have that much meetings to get balance, variety and stuff right.
 
I find that whole concept of pipe guns to be a shining example of how Bethesda fucks up - they do things based on how cool they are as opposed to if it fits the lore. They reshape the lore around their fucked up ideas. It is all about the Rule of Cool as it has been since Todd Howard became the man in charge.

ironically an idea is 100% more cool if it builds upon previously established lore.
 
yes but such people are part of the problem. people who don't care about quality are why we had 26 movies of black men crossdressing as fat black women within 15 years.

To them they are being constrained by all the world building so they want to tell cool stories without worrying about the repercussions.
 
Does anyone find that despite mega-gauss rifles, drum fed AR's, and bowling ball launchers, NV's weapons are cooler anyway?

Fuck WW1 HMG's, a lever action .357 is just THAT much more badass.
