Fallout Extreme part I: the story

I'm still waiting for Radiation Suit Larry, the spin-off where you try to pick up prostitutes in New Reno only to fail miserably just as you thought you were about to score.

I'm starting to think that the BoS and their Power Armor is the Fallout franchise ultimate demise.

Very much so. BoS is an uncreative solution to every problem - guys with lots of technology that goes boom, who can be used both as big bads and the ultimate do-gooders.

You need to give the player a motivation? BoS sent you on a mission!

Want the player to have a formidable enemy? BoS is pissed!

BoS and the Super Mutants are overused, because they're the easy way out when plotting quests.

It was a smart decision not to use them too much in FO2, although the Enclave was pretty much BoS after FO1's evil ending.

I wouldn't mind a Fallout that took place outside the US. My Canadian heart always wanted to have a Fallout game where you got to play in Canada, trying to overthrow the American invaders after the bombs fall. Also, it could be set in winter so the colour pallette could have been expanded past brown.

Fallout eXtreme (I always hated the late 90s obsession with "EXTREME!!") sounds brutal, though.

Canada is not outside the US. :)

Do you know if any work was actually done in terms of building levels or anything? As a long time Unreal engine fan, I'd be curious to see screen shots of it, if they ever existed.

There was only one map developed, Griffon Airfield. I don't have any screenshots or anything, though.

I do find the ideas for enemies and locations intriguing, though.
I agree. As strange it sounds but I would not mind in a Fallout game to see the world of what China was or is in the world of Fallout 200 years after and before the great war. I mean what kind of ideas had China about the future in the 50s and 60s ? I think there is a lot of potential. To visit such a location in Fallout might be eventualy to much but maybe hiden messages, pictures, videos.

Why would that be relevant? Fallout is US retro-50s, not "retro-50s specifically adapted per country". It's why it can only really be set in the US.

I doubt the makers of FOX even thought of this.

Fallout Ausir. Shorthanded to Faust.

This FOX thing's not going to catch on, man. Give in!

BN, you're wrong. The nuclear age was international, and so was the cold war.

Here's the gameplay information:

Some of it was actually pretty cool.

That's mainly because we've only seen the US side of things. But I don't think making e.g. Russia based on Soviet 1950s retrofuturism would be out of place in the setting. And it's not as if there was one unified vision of the future in the US and one unified vision of the future in the Soviet Union etc. and they did not influence each other in any way.

That said, I doubt that the makers of FOX even thought about making it retrofuturistic.

Within the backstory the war was international, but almost everything about the setting is grounded in '50s Americana. If you start exploring other nations then you lose that feel and you lose something that was a big part of Fallout.

I don't think a spin-off set in a retrofuturistic Soviet Union would be out of place. I would prefer the main series to stick to the US, though.
