Fallout/Fallout2 jump to any map -patch

First time out of the vault
Ever had a problem with NPCs standing on your way? Ever needed to get somewhere fast? Well, now it's possible. "Jump to any map you like just by pressing Ctrl-v" is coming soon...

anyone interested?

In Fallout (and Fallout 2) executable there is a code (not in use) which makes it possible to load any map you want. It's most likely to be the same piece of code that is in offical mapper File>Open (map). It's pretty much the same like pressing Ctrl-R in main menu, but without recording and you you can do it ingame.

Ctrl-v normally shows the game version (pretty useless, don't you think). That can be changed to Load map. I've tested it shortly, and it seems to be working. I'll upload the patch somewhere tomorrow if anyone cares

BUT there's a problem. it's not a clean patch. Sometimes when you "teleport" to the map the game crashes. I haven't found any fix to this, but I'm still looking into it. And if I recall correctly there were some world map issues. But hey, cheating in a great game like Fallout shouldn't be too easy.

Oh I almost forgot, a second thing I found some time ago is Save Map. It can also be attached to Ctrl-v. It saves your current map (with dropped items and such, I think) into .map file (you can enter the file name). Can anyone think any use for this?

Huh, I think that was all this time,

Yes, it works dude.

Everything went okay until I loaded the military base 1-2 map which crashed the game. Only problem I can spot is that you can load all the maps from the data/map folder; if you are a modder and keep a lot of copies of maps in this folder then you can easily select an invalid map (one that is not defined on maps.txt) and crash the game. But I dig this patch, thanks for bringing it out.

hey
I'm waiting for the UK version

It would be nice if you write som doc about changes that you did to the exe.

WOW DUDE, this patch is awesome! It works right along with your current saves too! This is a life saver for those stuck in a certain area due to a glitch and don't have a recent save before.
