Fallout: New Vegas Fan Interview Part 1

There's a lot of good news here, but I can tell the "perk every 2 levels" thing will be out as soon as the Bethesda kids start complaining.

Well. Sawyer wrote that they moved it to a game setting in the GECK. So if the GECK is released, people could be able to move it to whatever amount they want to.

I'm trying not to get too hyped up about F:NV but it sounds like they are fixing almost all the problems I had with part 3 as well as adding in some cool new featires (the SPECIAL overhaul is my top pick)

Not really. A lot of people there like it that way. I'm gonna put a poll there to see what they think about it.

So what if we change our perk rate to 3 in a game that is fit to give you a perk every level? We'd need to increase the effects of the perks too then, they should be triple (three times less perks = three times stronger perks), and some perks can't be edited in this way (Awareness, Gain Strength, Here And Now, Child At Heart, Lawbringer, etc. ). I think I like perk rate of 2 more than perk rate of 3. I admit that some (most?) of the perks in the original games sucked (Snakeater, Quick Learner...) and I hope F:NV has a variety of useful perks.

WTF is with that poisonous creature!? You die when you are bitten (like in real life), or just radiation made people incredibly resistant to poison?

"Sounds" great to me so far. I'm hoping to see some gameplay footage from NV next week at the E3.

I hope that Obsidian changes the main vault door in NV.....the Door in F3 was just a plain joke.

What do you think about the Vaultdoors in F3?

1. wasps don't bite you, they sting you.
2. you don't die from getting stung by the tarantula hawk wasp. but after reading on the subject, I can imagine that you wish you had.

anyways, regarding perks: I think they really need an overhaul and be spread out over every 2 or 3 levels. I can live with a bunch of purely skill-raising perks, but in FO3 choosing perks felt no different than allocating skill points. in FO1+2 the perks you chose really defined your character and playstyle and weren't simply a means to raise skills you felt got left behind. if they only used some imagination and put some work into them, they could easily make perks a lot more interesting. take the Awareness perk for example: why didn't they include this, and let it effectively raise your perception when detecting enemies on the radar and showing you exactly how many hit points an enemy has instead of the regular red bars?

"Their poison is deadly" - from this article.

Where did you read about this?

He was talking about the tarantula hawk which evolves into the Cazador.

What freaks me out is that tarantula hawks hunt tarantulas to lay eggs in them so the larva can have food. If the Cazadores are hunting men now (judging from a magazine preview in which an NCR soldier was killed by them), does that mean they are doing it to lay eggs in them?

I think, in the New Vegas world, they attack and kill everything, just like Fallout 3's bloatflies. :>

I checked wikipedia and watched some videos. nowhere was it mentioned that their stings will kill you, or even that they're dangerous for humans. I'm guessing that they're only dangerous if you're allergic, as with regular wasps.

one the size of a molerat on the other hand... that will probably kill you.

I agree.

Not console players, though, who are the majority.

I will shed buckets of tears for them.

Basically, the perk levelling ultimately means nothing if the perks suck. If they continue to be bland and nothing but stat boosts, then they might as well have them every 2, 3, or 4 levels.

What are you talking about? Fallout 3 had loads of perks that were more than just skill perks. There was that one for getting rid of robots, the lady killer/black widow, some involving radiation. I don't see where you are getting that they are not creative.

As a console player and fan of the originals I am offended by your cold response to our plight :P
