Fallout: New Vegas Gameplay

I guess that makes it official. Fallout 3 and beyond are it's own francize. When i have time, i should start working on the mod that will make Tactics more like Fallout 1 and 2.

I'm fine with it, as long as there is an option to continue playing - if they don't I'm sure that it will be incredibly easy to make a mod that does this. Don't forget that Fallout 1's end was definitive, too.

People like being able to meander aimlessly after the climax!

May I suggest a nice aftergame of feral ghoul? You can walk around aimlessly until an enemy shows up, then the computer takes over and rushes you into melèe. Should give another few minutes gametime! Remember to save often... :D

I´m mostly horrified by the ugly faces in the video. But since I quite enjoyed FO3, I don´t think quality writing will harm my experience of F:NV. Well, I´m crossing my fingers anyhow...

True, but after that it evolved. And now is devolving again. I mean, why take out a feature that people openly liked, especially when it worked perfectly?

Maybe the story ending doesn't allow to continue the game. Then it's silly to make it possible to continue.

I don't get this obsession with being able to keep playing when you've finished the game. I'd rather see that there's enough replayability to make me want to start a second playthrough straight away.

You do realize the video is from an old, outdated version with placeholder mutants and dialogue, right?

I...don't think the final game will look THAT different from those 50 seconds.

Besides, when there were FO3 previews, everytime we'd say something negative about them, somebody would pop up out of nowhere, register on the forum and tell us to :

-wait and play the game before we judge
-these are just screenshots, wait til you see the game in motion
-this video is just pretty low-res, wait for the final game
-this build was probably from an old version
-oh so now you judge the whole writing on just one bad quest ?
-why don't you play the game for yourself before you listen to other people's opinion ?

etc...

In the end, the game turned out to be exactly what we thought it would be, only a bit worse.

Fallout New Vegas will likely have better quests and writing ( but I'm taking the previewers word on this one, it's not as if previous Obsidian games were incredible roleplaying game gems either ) but I don't think it's gonna be THAT better when it comes to design, environment, lore etc...

Those 50 seconds do not seem to suggest otherwise...

And FYI, FNV features both "classic" Super Mutants and FO3 orcs for some reason...These are not really "placeholders".

Its designed for the crazy players who want to max out their characters at level 99 or something, some people have this strange notion that the higher their level, the better they are at something …remember that South Park episode were the guys sit in the basement for months playing WOW to max out their characters, and they did it by killing 50 million sheep, now that’s who this is designed for.

You're wrong. The current version features green regular super mutants and grey Nightkin. The FO3 ones were merely placeholders.

Yes. Nightkins are in the video and...they look exactly like FO3 Super Mutants ( only different color ). So does Tabitha.

I was talking about the look, the design, not the setting.

the nghtkin looks strange... a bit tribal/fantasy oriented
not army/badass corp or something...

anyway about the place holders thing... are we sure that the new mutants are goin to be in game or maybe there is not enough time to implement those new models?

We saw the new models already on screenshots...

And they are definitive better than the Fallout 3 ones.

Yup I agree
but I'm askin: are those models ready to be implemented or are goin to be trashed for time reasons?

lets hope for good

They have been already implemented them. You know, those screenshots when they're beaten repeatedly by the Courier?
As for the Nightkin I don't know, it will probably be the same model with a slightly different skin (grey-ish). Or maybe they just think this model (FO3-like one) fits their madness and leave it.
We'll have to see.

Yes, but we don't know how the Nightkin look in the current build (the one that the most recent screenshots are from).

Fair enough.

But I still have to ask though : is there a heavy polygon limit that comes with Gamebryo that forbids Super Mutants from looking like

stevefo2.jpg

or was it an actual artistic decision ?

Because they could easily achieve that kind of graphics with today's technology so does it have anything to do with them using a ten year old engine ?

are they saving the current build video for E3?
thats will explain why we got this creepy old build footage...

Yes. You need to watch your available ressources, if you work with the engine and want to make it run smooth on consoles, etc. Sawyer also wrote some time ago, that they reduced the texture size for the super mutant body model, so they could spend more on the heads for the new ones (and you can see it on the screenshot pretty good).

On computer, we don't really have to care. The game could eat up 20gb of space, who cares. But consoles need as less disks and space as possible... Also a computer can be upgraded with new graphic card or memory, a console not really.

/Edit: And the super mutants have to work with the human skeleton / bone model, else they have to create new and own animations for the super mutants. That's why they will always move more or less like all other humans in the game.
