Fallout: New Vegas hits preorder charts, F3 DLC sales

Two separate semi-newsworthy bits. VGChartz' preorder charts show New Vegas for the Xbox 360 had already seen 18,701 despite having no specific release date and being still half a year off. It slots in at #29 currently most-preordered game. (thanks Duck and Cover)

Meanwhile, the Bethesda Blog announces that from March 22nd to March 28th, all DLC will be half off on Xbox LIVE as the deal of the week, though by this point you might be cheaper off finding a good Game of the Year deal (the 2000 Microsoft Points the 5 DLCs cost at half off equates €23.26).

Awesome. Let's watch this game sell more than BethSoft's disappointment.

the sad part is that Beth is gonna take all the credit for it, and it will forever and always be their Fallout: New Vegas.

"So, anyway, Fallout: New Vegas was great, but our new game's better. It's going to be written by the same guy who did Mothership Zeta's story, use Gamebryo again, have 35 local actors from the streets of Bethesda, and have Robert Pattinson as the main character's brother."

I can just imagine when Hines starts giving the interviews.

He'll be talking about it like he was one of the key developers even though he doesn't even work in the same company.

It always amazes me when I hear about people forking over money before a game gets released. While Fallout: New Vegas will probably be a decent game, what if it was for another game and the pre-release hype was out of control, and all of the reviews upon release were terrible. Wouldn't you feel silly picking up your pre-ordered copy of Daikatana? What if the company went belly up, so the game never released. I suppose the retailer would refund your money, but what if you pre-ordered directly from the developer. Now you are a creditor at a bankruptcy hearing.

And yeah, I know how it helps the publishers gauge how many copies ultimately need to be made, but it just seems kind of like a scam to me, especially since there is very little scarcity involved in being able to manufacture enough discs. Imagine doing this for a new model of car. See the Kdf-Wagen and 1948 Tucker.

I rarely pre-order games, although with companies giving bonuses tied to pre-orders, I'm finding that I do it more and more. Just today I pre-ordered UFC 2010, as I was probably going to buy it anyway and by pre-ordering it I got a coupon for free DLC when it comes out.

I doubt I'll pre-order F:NV, as I'm going to wait and see if the gameplay is any better than FO3 was.

the gameplay ... well I expect here one that is very similar to Fallout 3, if we are talking about skills and such.

But I somewhat have the hope that the story will be (a lot) better and the use of skills here have a REAL meaning.

Well, it stands to sell better being a sequel. Fallout 3 was a new property as far as most people were concerned. It got a lot of good reviews and fans, so a sequel is going to sell well. Bethesda wants it to sell better though. The whole idea of commissioning Fallout: NV is to keep the property alive and in the public's mind till Fallout 4 comes out.

Because before Fallout 4 we'll still have Elder Scrolls 5 and possibly Elder Scrolls MMO.

Prediction time!

I predict Elder Scrolls 5 to be a single city action-mess with the RAI taken to the "next level", which will basically mean that the inside of the houses will be the same level (no level change between lower and top floors).

And still no shadows ahahah!

Well, that's kind of an interesting though given FO:3's commercial success. I'm thinking ya that's totally plausible that FO3 could have a huge impact on the future of the elder scrolls series

Yeah, probably.

Funny thing is I thought of this concept while playing Oblivion, even before the point I realized where a complete pile of crap it is.

well if they really want to do an MMO it will show HOW much of real skill as company Zenimax/Bethesda really has. The MMO buisness is usualy not that forgetfull and already a lot of companies crushed on that.
