Fallout: New Vegas - Metro 2033 screenshot comparison

And especially those parts kick ass. With every hit the enemy does succesfully on your face, the gasmask crackles. You see the world through "glass", as if you're wearing a gas mask. You're hearing Artjom (the player character) breathing louder if the filter of your mask is wasted etc. And this screen above is from the intro (different to explain though if you havent read the book or played the game), there you have "high tier equipment". At the beginning I couldnt see shit through my gas mask and just had to trust my ability to hear etc. which was a really great experience.

This really felt great.

Its Artyom. Playing in Russian with subtitles lol.

Assuming you mean it's Артём, then either transcription is fine. I think Surf Solar is using German transcription in which the ё is jo (I love German transcription, they turn thе щ into tschtschtj)

One would wish Russia had an official transcription, but since it doesn't, however you like it is fine.

lol

Ok. I was under the impression it was a 3rd person shot.

So does those headshot holes disappear when he picks up medipack? :)

no, cracks in the gasmask never heal. the only way to fix it is to replace your gasmask. also, if the cracks get too bad, you'll die because you can't breathe.

i've beaten metro 2033 now and it was a fun play, but even shorter than CoP and the part near the end with keeping miller alive was fucking stupid because his ai was stupid and i hated having to lunge myself in front of a fucking idiot to pass levels. but i think i'm just salty at that part because it's when the game took a significant turn for the more difficult because until then it suffered from the resident evil plague of being able to do better at the game by just running past most every enemy and hitting the next checkpoint. i guess it is survival/horror, but whatever. also, i have a 9800gtx and had no issues with framerate and running this game at full settings. sadly, the game also has a strong lack of replayability so i'm going to replay CoP in the hopes that i missed 20 hours worth of content on my first playthrough.

I think thats one of the best parts in the game and they really did that very well.

Jep, in the books (german) it's also "Artjom".
But you're right, if one takes the "ё" as a comparison, I'd also translate it with "yo" not "jo". But anyway, it's nitpicking. :D
Btw - the german voice over, especially from the kids is purely crap. Maybe, in my second playthrough I switch over to the russian one. Maybe my 5 years of learning this language could help me a bit. :D

many of the voices they used for Metro are from the German version of "Search americas next idol" which is here about German singers (its just crap really ...).

I am so glad I can understand englisch.

I'm definite it does/should for international passports, at least I know we do in Ukraine (although it changes "officially" every now and then). It's just that when translating something like games, nobody gives a damn about proper transliteration. As far as I'm concerned, if the target gamer can read the name more or less properly, whatever is fine.

On a side note, try to imagine what the name transliteration to Chinese would look/sound like. Maybe I should get a knockoff Chinese verion just for the lulz, although I doubt my laptop can run the game.

No, that's a standard transliteration for use of government officials, just like there's a standard from Western to cyrillic (I was shocked to find they actually transliterated my name phonetically, impressive) - it'd be odd if it were just up to the government official's preference. But there is no "official" transliteration like Japanese has. Not sure why not, but I bet if the Russians proposed one the Ukrainians would kick up a fuzz because that's just how you are.

In Eastern European philology class we had to learn to distinguish Dutch, French, German, English and "standard scientific" methods of transliteration. Pain in the ass. I always use English or standard scientific now. But go figure, they're pretty different too (ш being š or sh etc).

Blablabla rantsrantsrants who cares

Jpn has no true "official transliteration" either. It's only valid for borrowed words (just like any language) and official often-used names (companies etc, again just like most other languages). As far as names are concerned, I remember it to be pretty lax.

Considering Russian and Ukrainian are different languages, I don't think we'd give a damn. Our current crappy russofil president would be probably happy, even.

Never heard of "standard scientific" btw. Probably one of those things that only philology majors use, lol, and I'm def. not studying to be one. Not for Slavic lang's anyway.

Ah fair enough then. Subtitles just call him Artyom, so i ran with it.

books?.. Am I missing something here?

Despite of all your fallout 3 hate this thread originally included Metro 2033. And yeah, there were books. :P

I didn't realize I had become the official NMA spokesperson for this thread or otherwise, but thank you for the 'glittering gem of hatred' award anyway. I had just intended to ask a couple of questions.

***EDITED for typo

that's not a spoiler. a spoiler tells you something about the plot, this is a compliant about game mechanics and design. it would have been a spoiler had i included this:

[spoiler:2fad2079ad]right after leading miller through a bunch of shit and keeping him alive, he gets owned for no good reason and you have to go on without him to complete the last stretch of the game.[/spoiler:2fad2079ad]

Yeah, but now i know im near the end.

Edit: Sorry, its a pretty petty gripe but im about to pass out so forgive me.
