Fallout: New Vegas mods and fixes

Reviews have slowed down as the review copy folks are done with their rushed reviews and others are taking a more considered time period for review, so let's sidestep a moment towards mods. The Nexus modding community is doing its regularly awesome job. I'm playing unmodded (never mod or tweak for a review!), but catching my eye is the porting of FOOK to New Vegas.
Ripten offers a top 5 of existing mods. It's mostly GUI and graphics tweaks now, obviously. Feel free to recommend mods in the comment thread.

On the fixing topic, we got a link to a potential fix for the NPC slowdown issue (Nexus link), also mentioned in the Ripten piece above. Looks like it's worth an install.

Must have is MTUI. I've installed it now, while I am at my second playthrough. Kept the original dialogue option window background tho'.. so just the font is smaller now, which is great. I can finally see all my answer options without having to scroll up and down miles long.

Hmm. Nice&fast. If i could avoid the spoilers for one more week the game should be working decently with help of patches and modding community.

And the porn mod, it was there on friday or so? :D

Porn mod was up on the day the site went live i think.

EDIT: Is New Vegas going to get it's own mod thread?

Only ua mods for me. the game is perfect as it is (for me). I couldn't play Fallout 3 without MMM, but this one I will leave alone.

I cannot wait for DarNified UI. MTUI is decent, but the HUD is still so freaking large and ugly it makes me wanna puke. I keep checking thread on Darnified every day hoping for some more completed version.

Has anyone tried the Centered and Raised 3rd Person Camera mod? The video looked very good except for some diagonal running. Of course you would likely have to change views when entering combat or buildings.

Also to me the dx9.dll fix and the d3d9.dll fix look like two different fixes although perhaps operating on the same principle. I haven't tried them. Does anyone know?

Thanks for the pump from your friend at the Nexus :) I meant to write this last week when you first put a link up but I couldn't remember what username I'd used, or the email I'd used to sign up! (derp)

The response from the community has been quite astonishing; I had no idea the modding scene would take off as much as it has so quickly. Of course having the .dll fix on the site has helped: people come on the site to download the fix then explore the modding scene a bit more, which I think is only a good thing as the more people downloading mods and making mods the more popular it becomes and the more likely more of our favourite games get released with SDK's.

Big thanks to Obsidian for making the SDK available so quickly and making it just as accessible as the FO3 GECK (as well as easy to convert..).

Guess that's thanks all-round, then ;)

I'm using the third person cam mod and it's awesome. You have to experience it. Feels like a whole different game. Though maybe that's just me - I've always hated the shoulder cam.

The MTUI is great too. (though I changed the window background to pure black)

Also, I've made my own little graphical tweak that removes some of the "effects" on the Pip-boy. No scan lines, no reflections on the screen. It reads a lot easier now. :)

I have a pip boy effects remover, don't remember from who though.

I haven't tried NV Fellout, but I am pretty sure it dosen't change as many things as the realistic lighting mod.

Mainly waiting for FOSE to get ported over which will be quite tricky to get working with Steam.
Then can get the readius pipboy mod and be rid of the chunky thing mucking up my armour.

I'm using:

The ATI .dll fix

Immersive Karma - no more annoying sounds or popups when you steal things

Night and Day - time pass more slowly, adds weather effects and darker nights, but not unrealistically dark like Fellout.

Better Forested area around Jacobstown

Realistic Death and Dismemberment Physics

Darnified UI beta

Killable Children - Lets you kill kids, gives negative rep and karma, and adds the Child Killer perk

Gravedigger perk

Realistic Gunshot Sounds

Also I deleted the reused Fallout 3 music, because it was overbearing and annoying.

no mods for better repair yet >-< ! ... Thats ... sad.

How comes everyone can repair items, without using a dublicate yet the player with regardless of a high repair skill ... cant : /. That helps a lot when you add content to the game with modifications where you are the only one with some "Unique" item degrading at some point so heavily that it becomes useless. And repairing it costs a hell lot of money and most people cant repair it past 80% or something. ~ or did I got something wrong ?

Hope we will see more of the F3 mods ported over to Vegas. But thats somewhat alomost certain.

With the new nvidia update and the dll file thingy from Nexus I am having no real problems. Things are looking great and no more stuttering!

So how is levelling in this game? Too fast like in FO3 ? I am level 12 after some 18 hours, but I feel like I explored 10% of the game...I wonder if I should get Slower level rates mod.
