Fallout: New Vegas perks list

Well the icons are a patch above the Fallout 3 ones which were just plain bad when it came to perspective and tended to copy and paste a lot of the older ones.
At least these ones are trying to be different. I think what's off about them is that they are pretty busy compared to the older ones.

Not to mention the clearly visible reference line on Vault Boy's face in a good 60% of the pictures.

Cowboy - I don't know anything about the stats of the weapons. But since it would kind of "limit" me to a few weapons, then I don't like it. Except if the weapons covered by the perk are much weaker than the endgame weapons (even with the perk) - then I wouldn't consider it at all.
Jury Rigging - Pointless perk. I prefer to make the additional effort to look for the same weapon/armor to repair with, rather than waste a perk for something so useless. Even if I use options that wear out my weapons faster (that trait, plus the energy cell type that do it), I still think this perk is kind of pointless.
Rad Child - I doubt this perk would help me much.
Laser Commander - Possibly a perk worth taking.
Shotgun Surgeon - Maybe worth taking.
Long Haul - I would prefer to drop the stuff, then fast travel to unload the remaining stuff, then return to pick up the stuff I dropped, rather than wasting a perk.
Math Wrath - Cool, maybe worth it.
Pack Rat - Even though this would make Hardcore much easier, I still don't think it's worth taking.
The Professional - I can't say, because I don't know the weapons in the game.
Purifier - Seems overpowered to me.

The idea of perks that suit you to a certain role - I don't like it, I never liked that kind of stuff. I mean, would a real cowboy prefer a cowboy suit to a metal armor? I've always hated the idea of that if you look like something, you are more like that something, because it's totally wrong. So I would choose the option that makes you more like cowboy/pirate/samurai/hippy/assassin, rather than choosing the best possible option? No fucking way! However, if it's about choosing an option that makes you more of something - good/evil/manly/crazy/stupid/peaceful/emotional, then it's okay, even very good.

Note: That's just my personal opinion, and not what I think would be the best for a RPG.

It depends on the stats but as an early pick (it's a lv.8 perk) it could be useful since it boosts damage of Meele, Explosive and Guns. I think I'll pick it because Revolvers are just better and incidentally one of the most powerful Small Guns in FO3 was a revolver.
Also revolvers and rifles aren't that heavy so it could free some inventory space.

I don't know... Inventory space is more of an issue in NV (so you can't bring around ten thousands of spare weapons) and at the same time the number of weapons is doubled. You could find yourself without the weapons you need for a while.

Purifier - Seems overpowered to me.

Given the disadvantages of Melee and Unarmed combat...

Also the combo of CowBoy + The Professional + Purifier has the potential of being deadly.

Sneak criticals with a revolver: +25% base damage plus +20% damage.
Knives and hatchets against mutants: +75% damage.

If NV has a Better Criticals perk that works like in FO3... *shivers*

Yes, absolutely. Most people in the nineteenth century viewed the use of metal armor as cowardly, which is why when the US Civil War came around both sides experimented with body armor but then dismissed it because a large majority of troops who were assigned iron or steel armor refused to wear it.

If only they'd had Power Armor back then... think of the possibilities...

Fact is that people do things like that all the time. Back in the days of the repeater rifles some generals argued against them because they thought that their soldiers would lose accuracy. Some Corea vets refused to adopt the M-16 in Vietnam, some soldiers are refusing to wear Kevlar under their uniforms in spite of the obvious protection...That's not counting the countless people who refuse to use modern tools when their older alternatives are around.

Fact is that people do irrational things and refuse to adopt "superior" things just because they are around. Its not a role-playing thing; its a people thing...

but roleplaying should be more then just about the looks. Or we have a LARP simulator. If people only choose the cleric cause of the summoning-undeath-spells then its in my eyes pointless to have classes. Certain restrictions are good but they should make sense. A Paladin would never go for a weapon that he finds unchivalrous or a fighting technique which supports the art of a thief like backstabing his enemy or using a sinister way of solving a quest. A person not using some armor he could is irational in my eyes but someone that cant use some item or armor because he never received training makes sense to me. A hat makes you not a cowboy maybe playing with your lasso does though no clue :P
