The unofficial Fallout Online mod project website is now available in English. From the FAQ:
Q: What will the combat look like?
А: Fight will go in a real time. A time penalty will be set for each action. Than player waits for the end of penalty (animation is played during the waiting time). There will be no fighting modes. Unfortunately turns can not be implemented in MMORPG game.

Q: What will be, if my character is dead?
А: Your body will be cloned in the nearest station of Replikation. In it you obtain all memory which was at the moment of death. From your account will write off some sum for the lead manipulations. Obtain blue body stockings, pip-boy and will wish successful day. All items, implantants, money will remain in a corpse who after a while will be absorbed by the Wasteland.

Q: How quests in FO will be realized? Whether the new player will be restrained, ignorant where them to take it and how them to carry out?
А: All quests sorting by groups: cycle (clean a shelter, smooth out a field from wreckers, repair the shaky generator),Disposable (become a paladin of Brotherhoods of Steel or become Citizen Volt-Siti) and uniques (save the world). If first be able to players time to time, that secone only 1 chance to 1 player. Third quest may be complited only 1 from 1 session of game. Considering a variety of Fallout world, we dare to hope, that they will suffice on all.
They added quite a few videos as well as some art:

Cool, I made the news! The latest video is really good, be sure to check out the weather effect one to.

this is madness!

well looks rather good,.. but i wonder if this game will be fun.. will need a lot of work, good servers, a great netcode...

well
we will see

This game doesn't look like a mod, it looks like something written from scratch to use existing game resources. And it looks pretty impressive too.

How come Russians and other Slavics (Polish/Czech people) are so in love with Fallout ? Is it because it is the most accurate simulator of living conditions of our homelands ?

I kid, I kid :D

Well, I don't believe in this project too much (counting with mortality rate of an average FO mod + very ambitious idea, y'know), but I quite like the arts... :)

i really love that concept art!

But the "clonation" thinghie really sucks imho..

Why can't mmorpg get mature and accept PERMADEATH ?

just make char building something that takes limited time instead of 39201930129'391 levels and stuff..

and the game, instead of being about ONE SINGLE CHAR you'll end up not using anymore since you get bored, will be like in a true d&d game, someone with a story, a beginning, and an end..

what's wrong with permadeath?
it s so cool to have a bunch of stories about how that, ot that, or that char story ended up..

i think best d&d moments are so many times the death of PC! (those are the moments you remember more usually).

and it makes the game so much more REAL, with chars being "afraid" of doing dangerous things and stuf..

oh well.. anyway i wish luck to the project!

p.s. BTW i can t see their site or video!

Hey, you're right! This leads to the annoying "the world is filled with 1000's of unkillable superheros, all of whom slay the greatest of evil everyday for 6 hours". It has taken epicness to the extreme, there is not a single normal person anymore in the WoW world for example, only great fighters and mages in totally overdone gear doing their shit.

You have one character and when he dies the story actually ends right there sounds a lot more intresting to me than being one out of 1000 generic superheros in my superhero world that is under a constant attack of ever increasing evil for me to slaughter..

What is the difference between cloning and perma-death + quick character restart?
A fear of death can be acheived in many ways. In GTA it's loss of weapons and 3 minute drive. In WoW you lose a couple of gold (10minute grind) and a few minutes of travel, and perhaps a raid wipe (lots of downtime).
In EVE-online it's a potentially one hundred hour grind and hours of travel that you lose upon death.
In many singleplayer games it's a loading screen and X minutes of replaying depending on when your last save was, often no more than a few seconds.

Each of these games for a different type of gamer, for sure.
I've played all types and I can say with certainty that the feeling of loss is not popular amongst many people.

How much would you willingly risk to acheive the adrenaline of fear?

Sure enough, often it mere time that you waste, but for most people, time has great value.

Strange, they made website available in English but they blocking IP...
About permadeath idea: That would be slight better then clone-your-ass. After playing some of roguelike games I have become more careful about my characters, and even start playing Fallout 1 with saving only when i quit. Nice experience.
