Fallout Online Website Launched

Awsome...

Chris you are a God amongst men, truly...

signed up and spreading the good news.

I'm excited for an MMO. I hope it goes much more in the direction of EVE with the economy being mainly player run with the heavy majority of the items, vehicles, weapons and armor being player made. In addition to "farming" there could be salvaging for materials/xp.

Watch they have a filter where anyone who chose Fallout Tactics as their favorite Fallout game automatically is DQ'd from beta service and their email gets sent to the trash. But of course you won't know this, you'll think you were just unlucky and not chosen....

I bet there's Fallout 3 fans trying to sign up wondering where the "I haven't played any of those games" button is.

What in the hell? This is awesome beyond belief! And the site concept is definitely cool.

Signed up for the hell of it.

I imagine the only reason Beth hasn't pulled the plug yet is so they can attempt to recoup their investments from the initial wave of sales before they shut it down.

A successful MMO requires constant maintenance, and new content being developed; which means it needs to be coming from a stable, well-funded studio. Instead, it's coming from Interplay + Masthead, which isn't exactly what I'd call stable.

Masthead appears to have zero completed games under their belt, and are simultaneously developing "a post apocalyptic science fiction MMORPG set in the distant future." called Earthrise, along with the fallout MMO, which makes me wonder if they're sharing assets, in order to beef up what they're showing to Beth so it looks like they're actually getting work done.

Then we've got Interplay, which is a rotting corpse that has been hexed to life by Bethesda to <s>eat brains</s> make Fallouts, likely so that old fans who forgot what a clusterfucked piece of shit Interplay was will see the logo and think "Holy shit! A new Fallout game.. and it's from Interplay? Must be the real thing!". While the Fallout 3 generation will buy it either way because it's like Oblivion with guns.... but Online!

Hopefully I'm proven wrong, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

To be fair, they have quite a few people from Interplay/Black Isle and as Ausir said above, Obsidian. I think it might turn out into a decent MMO (if it gets released fully, that is) but it definitely won't be a WoW-killer.

Yup, they have two major Fallout 1 designers - Chris Taylor and Mark O'Green, and Jason Anderson, even though he eventually left for inXile, also contributed to the game's design early on as the creative director.
