Fallout TV show in development

I expect the Fallout TV show will be another fan fiction about Todd Howard and his family like the two previous Fallout games Bethesda worked on.

Show will be about the struggles of a man looking for enough junk to build his settlement, in and endless series of repetitive kill-loot-fetch quests.

So what if we get a Fallout TV show that's good and a good DUNE film?

Wouldn't that just be awful?

I smell Mandalorian rip.

Oh god no.

I don't want a tv show. It's never going to be able to accurately replicate the world of Fallout so it'll come with its own set of compromises so even if it was good I doubt I'd enjoy it. Especially since whenever we see game turns into movie (dunno how many has turned into tv shows) then the movie doesn't exist to branch out the already existing world. Instead it creates a new world by reiterating the beginning, meaning that it is non-canon trash. This is a reason for why I couldn't get into the Deadpool film and why I didn't even bother watching the second one. I love Deadpool from the comic and the film does not expand on that story nor does it accurately follow the story of the original Deadpool's origin (though that's been retconned once or twice too and yes that still pisses me off) so what's the point? I get to see him flop around live action? I don't care and I don't see why others would.

I'm already sick and tired of seeing the series I love get brutalized by Bethesda and then to see nu-fans giddily toying with the corpse. I really do not want it to get even more popular than that outside of the gaming scene cause my god I'll never be able to get away from it. It'll be a constant reminder of how low Fallout has sunken, how I'm never going to get it back and how others are obliviously enjoying a ruined franchise.

I hope this fails. I hope it is so underwhelming after just a few episodes that barely anyone talks about the season finale. I'm not even going to watch it. I don't want the bad taste in my mouth that I can never unwash. And like I said, if it gets popular... It'll be EVERYWHERE thanks to the normies. It's happened before with other things I care about and of course it has to happen time and time again. Disgusting.

This means kids will be dressing up in Fallout costumes at Halloween.

That's basically what FO3 is.
________

About the show, we discussed it to death on the Bethsoft forums —what— twelve years ago. It will be crap, and not truly anything like Fallout, or the Fallout world setting. Glorified Nuka~Break, unless they pour enough money into it to clone Carnival Row, or Westworld; what a waste that would be.

I'm a bit confused by this line though:
The project is currently in development but has a series commitment penalty attached. That means that if Amazon execs like the script, Fallout would bypass the traditional pilot stage and go directly to series (or if it is passed over, all involved would be paid out as if it had). A writer is not currently attached.
So does this mean that everyone gets paid even if they don't even film a pilot?
Like, as long as they get someone to write a terrible script, everyone gets big sacks of money for doing nothing?
So it may all just be a scam to collect free money from Amazon?

I would love if they followed fallout 1 story. We all know we are getting a tv series around fallout 3.

Yeah my assumption is that they'll be doing something new and likely lower budget than the games stories.

Which is why it could be good. Unlikely as because it's the franchise's first time in the silver screen they'll want to hit all the flanderized iconography bases so I guran-fucking-tee the old world will take a large stage.

There's also been a weird trend in fiction in the last few years to hugely underplay the severity of the after effects of thermonuclear conflict which I can only assume is a part of some grander conspiracy, so I can't wait for our story to be set in a verdant overgrown Walking Dead apocalypse ten years after the Great War

The moment I read this headline I could only think this

"So this is going to be the final stab."

In my fan interest in Fallout or in the franchise itself. Once Fallout has sold itself off like this with all the crap Bethesda has put in the lore since Fallout 3 there is never going to be any step back ever again.
Even if Bethesda should eventually collapse and the IP is sold on to another company this series might always be brought up again as to what a new game should perhaps look like.
And you can bet your ass that a lot of people will watch this, the Bethestards and everyone with a somewhat interest in Sci-Fi and Post Apocalypse that is looking for their next fix.

And of course they are going to tone down the anarchy and terror of a post nuclear apocalyptic wasteland or the horror of a nuclear war Atomic Postman, costs perhaps but also because this is a show that will have to appeal to a wide audience.
Plus of course the Bethesda trademark humor has to be in it (throws ups)

I would not be surprised if it was set ten years after the great war like you suggest.

Perhaps I should consider selling all my Fallout stuff like the big box Fallout 1 and 2, the IP is probably going to be emotionally dead to me anyway once this series airs.

The reason why they are doing is because Bethesda wants Fallout to be a "lifestyle brand". Think of what Disney did to Marvel and Star Wars. Bethesda wants to do that to Fallout. All I can say is, what a weird ass franchise to make a lifestyle brand out of. To see Karen's and their snot nose brats wearing tee shirts and pajama bottoms out of a game that dealt with serious themes like; slavery, child slavery, prostitution, sex trafficking, drug abuse, politics, murder, genocide, rape, psychopathy, vengeance, exploitation and ect. Then again it worked for Game of Thrones so Bethesda is probably thinking "Why not!".

The brand sanitation already started with Fallout 4. It was less dark than even Fallout 3. No rape, no slavery, no exploitation or genuine human suffering. Fallout 76, a game set 25 years after the Great War within which you'd imagine would be one of mankinds most savage periods (and according to Randall Clark, it was) ends up looking more like a folky pastoral story in the woods.

That is the problem when things get infested with normies. Gone is the grit and grime. You have to sanitize it! Make is palpable for normies of all walks of life to swallow and consume. You make a product for everyone you ultimately make a product for no one.

I don't think it's necessarily normies, though I imagine the correlation is pretty strong. Early seasons of Game of Thrones portrayed a very dark world with rape, torture, slavery, et cetera and it gained massive mainstream appeal.

But yeah I almost feel like there's a moral dubiousness to sanitizing the post-nuclear world and not showing humanity at its most depraved. Nuclear holocaust should not be a mere flavour for your fantasy, it should be a gateway into the dark heart of mankind.
