Fallout3d - A Post-Nuclear Single Player RPG

First time out of the vault
The website is up for the upcoming single player game Fallout3d A Post Nuclear RPG by Mutants for Mutants! The game is under development by Hedonist House, I am the lead designer, concept artist, level maker, general all around lackey, while my wife Jota is the coder in the family and will be scripting the game. Not much over there yet that you haven't already seen here, but more is coming very soon! A forum should be in place in the next week or two. The url is http://fallout3d.com .

edit: Actually the Forum is up and running. :D

The synopsis for the storyline, as well as several concept and storyboard art pieces have been posted in Rad-X. Getting some great ideas from input from the forum already. Thanks folks! Merry Christmas!

I think you should find another name for your project, more original. It was the old title of Misleading Lands  ...

I wish you good fortune with your project.

I thought about that, and fought with it for a long time. Unfortunately in my mind, from it's very inception as a germ of an idea for a MOD back in 1999, I have always called it Fallout3d. I have really racked my brain on this, but since the French team did change their name, I guess it is ok for me to continue with this title. Course getting sued by Vivendi or Interpleh or whoever might change my mind, but no oily lawyers have contacted me so far.

Opening sequence now available in DivX 5.03

I went through and recompiled the opening sequence part one in DivX 5.03. This should be much easier for people to see now. The artwork of course is in progress, so although some of it may look a little rough, and there are no static, and film scratches yet, you get the general idea. This part one stops where the engine would come in, part two of the opening sequence is a movie created in the game engine, and would end as the UI begins, with any luck seamlessly. Enjoy folks!

Actually, in my game there was a period of nuclear winter just after the Great War, but then the pendulum swung back in the other direction, hence why you see the blasted out desert looking terrain. Think the world's worst drought multiplied by 10. The most precious commodity in the Wastes is water. It is even a factor in your property. And if you don't carry enough, you die of thirst.

well I guess just like the other fallouts it's a desert out there :). Water is important.

It is even a factor in your property. And if you don't carry enough, you die of thirst.

Not literally I hope. Don't want real life interfering too much with game mechanics.

Is it to the extent of replacing oil in Mad Max with water?

Sorry it took so long for me to come over here and answer your question, we've been a little busy lately. Actually I was discussing tonight with my fellow designer of the system, the equation of water, food & ammo. These are your friends. Anything else is junk that is either a.)taking up space in your inventory, b.)waiting to become useful, or c.)waiting to be replaced with something better.

You will need to be constantly aware of what you carry. You may find something that you feel is very unique, but you may not be in a position to sacrifice what it would take to pick up this object at this time. A resourceful person will take note of the location of interesting items that must be left behind, so that they can be retrieved at a later time... like when you have power armour and can carry around 100 extra pounds of stuff.

Besides your water supply, food supply and ammo, you will have to care for your weapon regularly, a dirty weapon has a greater chance of a critical failure. Once a night is a good idea. More than a week and a lot of gunfire, and you are asking for that weapon to blow up in your hands.

This is what has been taking up my time other than running around trying to be a CEO instead of a level maker... These are screencaps from the alpha test we just released to our Beta Testers. This is the living quarters section of Vault23.
