Feral ghouls: plausible or not?

Also, they do run really fast, you've got to admit that. Ridiculously fast compared to real ghouls, actually.
How fast do real ghouls run?

I'm looking in the latest Guiness book but I don't see the chapter for ghoul land speed records.

After a few save game reloads, I've come to the conclusion:

Feral Ghouls are just as fast as melee rushing Super Mutants, faster than Mirelurks, but slower than Yogi Bears.

Yogi Bears will run you down and murderize you.

I just want to know why the feral ghouls look like zombies while the sane ghouls look like humans in bad halloween makeup.

Short answer: Design choice.

Slightly longer answer: Design choice so players can visually descern the difference between a feral ghoul and a vanilla ghoul from a resonable distance. Shilloute patterns help in target prioritizing.

Feral ghouls are more devolved. More damage to the skin, etc.

Why doesn't a normal ghoul look like a human?

All 3 are based on the same lifeform, they are just at different stages of being affected by radiation.

actually I'm pretty sure it's because they were too lazy to program the feral ghoul faces to lip sync

Yes. Lazy. That's it.

Next time you spend 4 years working 12 hour days on a project, let me know so I can call you lazy. I'm sure you would appreciate it.

<3 internet. Can say things you would never say to someone's face! It's awesome!

Of course. CLEARLY this is just laziness on the developers part, as oppose to the much more logical and likely answer proposed by Gooscar.

you guys are hilarious. it makes no sense at all in-character for the smart ghouls to look different. the ferals are just basically the ghoul equivalent of raiders. there is no reason to give more ways to visually discern feral ghouls, you already have an enemy detector in your compass. they were just being lazy.

Feral Ghouls are FERAL. They don't eat right. They're diseased. They have no protection from radiation. They don't have any of doctors to heal them. OF COURSE THEY WILL LOOK DIFFERENT, YOU PATHETIC EXCUSE OF A HUMAN BEING.

ghouls are immune to radiation and the ferals and sane ghouls live side-by-side in the same sewers in many cases, you have no arguments so you call names. grow up.

Yes, because an 'enemy detector' is all you should ever have to use when playing a game.

Sorry, but you are being extremely obtuse.

Ferals and sane ghouls living side by side? ELLOELL. I must have missed all they're bar-b-ques and Little League games. As for the radiation bit, yes, that was a mistake on my part. But think about it for a moment. Feral ghouls are basically walking savage dogs. They have no knowledge of medical equipment, nor of weaponry. True, some wear clothing, but that may just be remnants from before they went feral. Still, with all they're diseases, hunger, and injuries, it's only natural that the feral ghouls would be in far worse condition the their sane counterparts.

actually I'd say an enemy detector is more than you should have when you're playing a game, it makes no sense and is only there to pander to people who want the game simplified. actually giving two identical populations radically different body models to accomplish that purpose would be bizarre.

no you missed all the places where they are living side-by-side such as warrington tunnels

To me the concept of feral Ghouls isn't such a problem, we had those in Fallout 1 and 2, but now they are used as a 'OMG Zombie' esque treat that wanders throughout most of DC.

While not based on Fallout in anyway, having lived in that area and having an opinion of the the people that live there, feral ghouls are a fitting fate for that community.

Plus, if I had known that DC cars exploded like mini nukes in chain reactions before this game, there'd be a massive reduction of not only SUV town tanks, but stupid Maryland/Virgina/DC drivers.
