FO2 The "No-Restocking" Bug

First time out of the vault
First off, I have to mention that I posted this once before, over a year ago, and got no response. I figured I'd try again, because the other day my brother called me up and started talking about how he's playing FO2, among other games. It got me wanting to play again. Plus, my PC hasn't changed much, and after trying a bit to test it, the problem comes back up. I really would just like to know if anyone else has heard of or experienced this problem.....

I'm on WINXP SP2 (I know, outdated...) and installed everything normally. If more tech specs are needed, let me know. No mods or other game-alterations installed.

I've done searching and searching, and have only found 2 related subjects (both by Per) on the "no-restocking" bug that I (as many) have been having.

First, I'll explain what is happening.

After playing through the game, not completing it but randomly wandering around leveling up, for some reason all shop keepers stop restocking permanently. It seems to happen to me after 4-7 years game time, and I really don't know why.

One subject was posted recently by Per here on NMA.
"* I have pretty much figured out that the infamous no restocking bug is caused by the game timer stopping or warping to zero or negative numbers. Any more info on when it happens (that is after how much game time) and/or in what circumstances might help. It sounds like something a hack to prevent the 13-year time limit might cause, but surely it has been experienced by people who didn't use any such thing? "

The other is from Per in "The Nearly Ultimate Fallout 2 Guide."
"All shops in the game may at some point cease to restock, apparently because the game timer goes out of whack and jumps to some negative value. This means shopkeepers will have no inventory at all if you visit them for the first time after the bug sets in, including random encounter merchants and trappers. Accounts vary slightly in details, but a common factor seems to be that the bug only strikes after a long time of playing (some 6 years or more of game time). Reported side effects include timer-dependent features breaking down (like waiting forever for the Dragon's next training session), character age becoming fixed, and the Pipboy losing track of special dates."

I've been having a crazy, random FO2 urge for some reason, but when I get half way through this bug hits and it's unplayable for me because I cannot get new ammo or sell my phat lewt.

I know its not just happening to Per and I. Please, if anyone has a solution/idea post it here.

Thanks!

I have no idea as to a solution, but I can point out that it often happens to me as early as two to three years into the game. This is in 1.02, and has happened countless times for me.

It might be worth checking into seeing if this happens with Killap's restoration mod?

I've never experienced this bug. Now I'm in 2248. I have more than enough ammo to survive the 4. world war. :D I can send you via e-mail. :D
But thanks for letting me know, that this bug exists. If something turns wrong, I will load a previous save game, and see what happens again. That what I do when my car disappeared. Fall back 1,5 years... Now I changing the saving slots more commonly. Have you tried to load previous save game?

Yes, it happens every time I start a new game to. Anywhere from a year or 2 to about 6 years. Usually right about the 3 year mark, all of the shops just stock restocking.

Wow... I'm in 2250 and the shops stopped restocking... Great. I have to grab all carriable munition, and go to the enclave base, and complete the game...
Are there any programmer, who can see in the game, and can grab this bug? I can apperciate it... :) It's some kind of calculating problem, I guess. In one of my maths exam, there is a simple - sign totaled the half of my calculations. But the first half was good... Is this possible, that there is a wrong sign somewhere?

According to Per, it has something to do with the in game clock. The question is, how can it be altered?

I'm going to try a few of these unofficial patches and see if they fix the problem.

I can't believe it, but it seems that killap's unofficial patch has solved the problem!

Of course now there are little unofficial patch bugs that I'm noticing now, but I can actually complete the game and not have a huge problem =D

And it would be a good idea to report those bugs so they can be fixed, don't ya think?

Red 888 Guns has nothing in stock.

I've seen this in two different playthroughs now. Whenever I visit Red 888 guns in San Fran they have nothing to sell, just money. Has anyone else had this happened? I'm using killap's patch if that could factor into it. Thanks.

Could you please post your save. I have never seen this bug so I would like to have a look at it.

Slight thread necromancy, but hey, it's less than 2 months old.

Same for me, except I'm only on my first play-through. Only money available on first visit, no other items. Flying Dragon 8 had stock, and continues to refresh its stock every few days. Red 888 Guns continues to have nothing, not even the money restocks.

Linking my save since it looks like Steam Engenius didn't provide one. Haven't seen any talk about this bug in the Modding forum, I may post this there as well.
