The GameRanger multiplayer service, which has been available to Mac players since 1999, now expands to cover PC gaming as well, and Fallout Tactics is one of the 521 supported PC games. Owner Scott Kevill apparently has a special interest in this game since he's been dropping the news in person on various Fallout sites:
I'm really excited to be releasing it, and hope it helps boost the Fallout Tactics community by allowing people to play that were unable to until now due to problems with opening ports, etc. The more barriers that can be removed, the more likely the community will stay strong, as new users won't be put off.
In order to host and play games it is only necessary to download the client, while if you want a unique user ID, some extra functionality and an absence of ads, there's a yearly fee.

Too bad Tactics multiplayer is a broken mess of min/maxing. Were any of the premade character mods good or was the demo the height of balanced gameplay?

yea, min/maxing... but i can't deny the fact i loved FoT multi player back in the days the 56k was my only way to connect (with all its faults). i loved especially TB matches, though noone seemed to like it too :\
i'm going to give it a try anyway, 'cos i've been missing FoT multi quite a lot :)

This is great news if there already wasn't a place to play tactics. One of the old guys that used to play on GameSpy made this. We're on usually once a day playing. It's called COOPnet. You can get it from here or here along with a ton of maps that we play.

Edit: It's free and there's no ads.

Yeah, CoopNet is the best way to play Fallout Tactics and many other games. Even of game bugs, playing Coop mode still is so much fun.

Heh, in past I enjoyed playing FO:T on GSA some years ago... 10k REG, RPG, 2K Ladder, Coop... great experience. Cheers to all people from those days.

The last time I checked, it was still 'chem spam + combat shotgun = win'.

Phil, that's only if you're playing 10k. We don't play that shit anymore. There's a ton of other crap we do that's more fun.

I installed COOPnet but I do not see any other users in any rooms, is it usually like that?

Yeah, usually between 12 eastern to 4 eastern you'll find some guys. Otherwise add me on MSN or AIM and I'll tell you when we play.

Edit: We had a full room today, it kicked ass. If you get a chance, please come to COOPnet and play. The community is great. :D

shit!

i use to play FOT back on my 56k But i left for a year and came back and gamespy was dead :(

I use to be 10k , and the RPg maps

are people playing the retail version or is there some noteworthy patch that needs to be installed first?

I just found my tactics disks when i rummaged through my old room at my parents
