Herve Caen sees bright times ahead for Interplay

In Interplay's latest 10-Q filing, it is noted that Interplay has had a good quarter, due entirely to the sale of the Fallout license, for which Interplay has been paid 4,000,000 USD, and is yet to receive 1,750,000 USD in Q4 2007. And not due to any sales, which are down 34% and 94% for PC Games and console games respectively, producing a total revenue of 62,000 USD. In this situation, with a total of $4.8 milion dollar in liabilities (of which Herve Caen describes "less than $3 million" as debt ($2.9 million according to the SEC filing). The 10-Q notes Interplay is still under litigations for outstanding debts to Bioware and an artist named Michael Sigel for "unauthorized use of image"), Interplay is "will only be sufficient to fund our anticipated expenditures through the end of the third quarter of 2008."

Still the future is rosy:<blockquote>Said Interplay chairman and CEO Herve Caen, "I am pleased with the progress the company has made, particularly with our debt load, which has improved from $59 million in December 2001 to less than $3 million today. With that difficult period behind us, we are focused on securing funding for development of a Massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMOG) based on the popular Fallout franchise. Along with our strategy of leveraging our existing portfolio of intellectual gaming properties, Fallout Online will play a key role in the future of Interplay."</blockquote>Link: Interplay 10-Q filing.

Thanks Briosafreak.

Funny that PC game sales still represents 90% of the revenue vs. console's 10%

Betcha most of that 90% is Fallout. Funny.

Didn't you know that Herve is pretending to be a modder, you know when ever you see someone in the modding forum say that they want to make a FO Online mod - That's actually Herve trying to get free labour

:) Yeah, Herve might end up so.

Anyway, I hope that he won't rake up any investors and return back to his moms' skirt.

Why is this corpse still moving on?
No way in hell that Herve will ever be able to pull FO:OL of.

Desperate egoist tend to be very persistant... Like a bear chewing his foot to escape a bear trap. That's how I view him now.

Also, sometimes desperate people can pull off incredible stuff(positive and negative).

If Fallout Online turns out to be anything good (or if it's even EVER released), I'll make broth out of my sneakers.

It's a damn cryin' shame what happened to Interplay. From what I've read, it feels like it got caught up in the "irrational exuberance" storm of the dotcom era, then was stranded when the rising tide fell. Now cap'n Caen is selling off chunks of the good ship Interplay, tryin' to dig his way back out to sea. I hope he doesn't make it, 'cause the clueless twit just sold half the hull.

Interplay is a cautionary tale of what can happen when:

1. You rely on licenses for games instead of original IP.

2. You disregard the PC to focus on console games and gamers.

3. You let an absolute moron invest in the company and he takes over management responsibilities.

Funny how Fallout is going to be Interplay savior... I hope it DOES save Interplay... and then someone get Herve fired and put a decent CEO at his place. And they rake in FOOL so much that they buy back the Fallout license, call the old devs of BIS back and start Van Buren again... it's a dream, but I would ABSOLUTELY ROCK!!

And you have too much alcohol in blood.

Hm. Fallout 3, then Fallout Online.

While I'm quite content to wait on Fallout 3 before passing judgement...

Fallout Online, by an essentially dead team...

Yeah. Um.... Yeah. Bad, meet worse.

Yup. At this rate the online fallout could be sold to and dev'd by Blizzard, wouldnt THAT be a riot...

Well, Blizzard has at least 3 of the original Fallout developers... Although I doubt they'd be interested.

Some of the original devs loved the idea of Fallout Online. Don't know how Leonard felt about it.

Anyway, the most logical path of action for Herve now would be to get rid of as much remaining debt as possible without selling off his final assets, and then selling Interplay lock stock and barrel for half a dozen million. He's given himself a lot of stocks and incentives, and would profit well from such a deal. Even the minor stockholders might do well, though no way they're getting their investment back if their long-terms.

Only thing stopping that is the possibility that Herve's ego is too big to give up. That'd be stupid.
