Huge caches of meds/gold?

It Wandered In From the Wastes
I lways hear people saying its easy to amass huge caches of meds, stimpacks, etc and gold in Fallout 3.

Now I could just be really shit at the game but I can never seem to find anything like this. 75% of the time when I am playing I don't always have enough money for what I need and I run out of stimpacks really quickly (I can never seem to get as many as I would need).

In fact, it always seems to be the case that there are more stimpacks and gold than I could ever use in Fallout 2, rather than 3. I guess this isn't really easy to verify or instruct on but at any rate I can never seem to find enough of the damn things, yet I always hear people complaining about there being "too many" in the game.

The thing is, that in FO3 you might use houndreds/thousands of stims through the whole game, because you fight a lot and get shot a lot. In the previous Fallouts, you don't use that many during the battle, maybe 1 or 2 sometimes, to keep yourself alive untill you finish all your enemies. Of course, it also depends on you level, and on how many friends you have in your team. Friends in previous ones can actually kill everyone for you, while you just stay off the fight. In FO3, mostly you do all the job, it's very hard for your [retarded] friends to win the battle by themselves.

Also, in previous Fallouts "waiting" can heal you and you can't have any aid kits with stims hanging on the walls in almost every building/location, like in FO3 is- which makes it a typical shooter-like game.

And for the money...it's easy to steal stuff from the shop (just drag an ideam and get out fro the building), and cheat the stupid AI system. And on like 2nd level you can kill raiders' camp.

I'm not sure if there is a limit for selling stuff in FO3 (forgot how it is), but in the previous Fallouts, sellers didn't allways have money to pay you. Most of the times on the begining of the game, you had to barter for something else except money (like stims for your stolen Gecko's skin).

Sellers have even less money in F3 which is one of the reasons I have so many stimpacks as I keep trading my excess junk for them.

Money troubles are quite a common occurance at low levels but when you start looting laser and plasma rifles off people the money starts flowing in, don't bother with armour as much as it doesen't sell well unless fully repaired. Always repair items if you can as well, a fully repaired laser pistol goes for way more than a couple of crappy ones.

Also the hand-in quests such as the Arlington Library and Nuka Cola Quantam quests net you a lot of money if you do them.

A trusty fallback is also the Brotherhood Outcast guy at Fort Independance, managed to net thousands of rounds of ammo and hundreds of stimpacks by trading tech with him.
Heck you get about 10 stimpacks if you give him alien blaster ammo and about 250 rounds of 556 ammo though that might be too great a sacrifice :P

I had several hundreds of stimpaks and barely used any. even towards the end when I realized I didn't need to be stingy about uisng them and starting using them whenever I got slightly hurt, I still had hundreds. so you must be doing it wrong ;)

there are no big caches with lots of them. but there are containers all over the damn place, everywhere you turn and anywhere you look - loot them all and you'll get by. keep your eyes on the ground too, especially in dark places. shit, I barely even use merchants - I only use them to buy weapons/armor I can use to repair mine with.

I must say that I would rather have had a few big caches of stuff than stuff spread out all over the world like this. it would make the game a lot more fun not having to look at the ground all the damn time and spend an extra 20 minutes just looting stuff in every house and dungeon. and it would make a lot more sense if a bunch of raiders hid a bunch of stimpaks and some ammo somewhere than spread it out like that.

Well, Casdin at fort Independence gives stimpacks in exchange if you bring him tecnology, so...3 or 4 for every laser rifle or 9 for some suit of power armor...(13 for Tesla ) so, Its pretty easy to have a massive amount of stimpacks at the end of the game. Hell, he even wants scrap metal or those modules used for minecaps...

I had some stim problems until i hit the hospital in the reilly's rangers quest. There are about 60-70 stimpacks there.

I think most of my stimpaks came from Defender Casdin. There are A LOT of energy weapons around. Talking about that... I think I gave Casdin so many energy weapons, scraps, sensors and Enclave Power Armor that he should't merely trust me, he should be my best pal 4 evar! I think I gave him so much ordinance that he could conquer the Capital Wasteland with all his laser rifles and Enclave Power Suits!

The only time I ever dropped below 100 stimpacks was before I hit lvl 10. Even then I can only think of 1 time I ran out of stims. I nevr turned stuff into the outcasts, I would just loot boxes. I didnt even really start buying stims till later because all my money was going into buying repairs (I didnt start repairing my own stuff till lvl 15 or so).

Maybe if

A) THe game had any real difficulty
B)Stims werent so abundant
C) The ai wasnt so retarded that I never got hurt

maybe then stims would be more of a hot commodity. I dont see how anyone could ever run short, I had such a piss poor character and never read the manual and I had no problems.

heck, I'm using the boss monster mod, "increased increased spawns" mod, zone respawn mod, and I still never run out of stims.

honestly, like people have been saying, just spend the time to loot all the containers and you'll never run out - that is, of course, assuming you are spending half or more of your time exploring the world, and not just doing quests.

Once you're high level its hard to run out.

However, try getting through the Capital Building by yourself with only a suit of Combat Armour at a low level. I completely ran out of stims and was bricking myself sneaking past just trying to find a bite of food or a toilet to boost my minimal health. It reminds me of the time in STALKER that I got half way through the Red Forest Zone before I ran out of Rad Packs and started to frazzle so I had to high tail it back to safety.

my next character I'm making I'm going to make him have really low luck, like 0. I find ammo/health way too much. On top of that there are often water sources you can use to heal yourself, I'd rather go through the game relying on finding those more.
My last character I was pretty good at luck 3, but I wanted to get the mysterious stranger perk so I had to get the bobblehead and use 2 perks to raise it to 6(Luck 6 required for perk). After this, ammo was in every other container. Way too easy.

Dude, are you serious? They are all over the place!
Search the little boxes with crosses, on the inside they are always full of scarce (??) meds, the ones that everyone in the wasteland seems to be in need of... but strangely no one figured out (after 200 years...) to check the medkits for... meds  Maybe it's because people are still hooked up to those functioning magic computers...
