I feel cheated.

So, I bought a new PC two months ago: the HP 8080.BE. Looked like a great rig. Today, I decided to run a 3D benchmark, to see just how great it is.

And I'm bloody flabbergasted.

I scored 1443. Which is like, less than my 6-year-old previous rig had.

Would anyone be in the know why?

My speccedie-specs:

Intel Core 2 2400 MHz
Physical / Logical: CPUs 1 / 2
MultiCore: 2 Processor Cores
HyperThreading: N/A
Graphics Card: ATI RADEON X1600
Graphics Driver: Radeon X1650 SE
Co-operative adapters: No
DirectX Version: 10.0
System Memory: 2048 MB
Disk Space: 476.94 GB
Motherboard Manufacturer: ASUSTek Computer INC.
Motherboard Model: LEONITE
Operating System: Microsoft Windows Vista

First error, you buy a HP!!So now your stick with it...
My condolence to you.

For myself I always buy "clone" pc so I'm not fucked...

And I'm agree with Mikael Grizzly, GeForce are better :ok: but this is my opinion...

You don't buy a pc ,you build your own....unless it has been put together buy some Professionals.
i am not sure how much the pc has costed you but i am sure with that money you could have built a much better pc then the one you already have.
everyone who buys a pc from a simple electronic store should feel cheated .

The problem with buying brand name PCs like that (especially HP) is that they use cheap parts to keep the costs down (and profit margins up). I bet the memory is slow, cheap junk. Also, you generally have to deal with the fact that they preinstall tons of software you don't need, and probably have a bajillion background tasks going on that serve no purpose but to eat resources.

Also, another advantage to having someone who knows what he's doing build it for you: they usually know how to mess with BIOS setting properly and can generally tweak a few things.

But really, it's hard to say. If that's a Core 2 Duo, then that along with the vid card and memory should give you good performance. If you know anyone who's good with computers, you should let them look at your computer. They could give you a much better idea of what's going on then we could over the internet.

Am I the only one who finds the "X1600 with X1650SE drivers" combination unusual? SE versions of ATI graphics cards are utter crap, especially in low and mid-end series.
If you get the opportunity, try to test it with an X1950Pro or similar, and if you don't score at least 5000, you can freely say you got screwed over.
Seriously, dude. HP?

Graphics Card: ATI RADEON X1600
Graphics Driver: Radeon X1650 SE

Jebus this doesn't make sense. So you have a x1600, which is really old and slow technology, ok. For that you need a Catalyst driver, and that isn't a driver, but another graphics card. So... what gives?

And HP machines are for senior citizens man, wake up and see the light!

Nevah evah git a prebuilt.. Surely you got some computer geek friends that could've advised you on better parts? Oy Gevault! For future reference... if it has HP, Gateway, Dell, or Intel stamped on it... it aint good infact, it's more rancid than limberger cheese.

Some times you've got no choice in the matter, either it's a prebuilt machine or no pc. Not all of us can order parts online, know someone who can build a machine for us or are even that bothered by what's under the hood.

I'm a little annoyed by the fact that my compaq has an altered bios so I can't easily upgrade the processor without changing the motherboard as well, or fiddling around trying to change the bios. But at the end of the day as long as it works and my games play at a reasonable level.

Don't buy HP machines and Windows Vista - they are crap. My mother has a HP machine and it's awful - it crashes a lot - I have a computer that was bought in a real professional computers shop and it works without any problems.

driver field looks strange. Otherwise sounds pretty good. I also doubt your previous rig had vista. Sort out your catalyst drivers

I recently suffered a loss at the hands of cyberpowerpc.com

That company supposedly builds high performance gaming rigs. I wanted a bitchen laptop and purchased one from them... What a load of shit.

I bought the thing in February. It worked for 2 weeks then broke. I sent it in to be repaired. It arrived a month later and it was STILL BROKEN! I sent it back out to be repaired (reluctantly as they claimed there was no refund) it came back a month later and worked... for a week then broke again.

I tried everything I could do to get my money back but the corrupt evil company (that advertises in Maximum PC) refused to give me anything but a brand new laptop. I sent the broken thing back to them and guess what I received back?!?! A physically broken laptop!

Luckily after providing my credit company a 26 page report on why I should get my cash back I received a complete refund.

So, note to self, BUILD YOUR OWN SHIZZLE OR LOSE THE GAME! When it comes to laptops... well, live the risk.

wow im sorry to hear that. I bought a kit from tigerdirect without doing any research, turns out the PC was total junk. They were able to refund my money though after a few calls and I was able to buy all of the parts seperately and build what I have right now. 3dmark06 gets around 5k now :)

Vista is also a big part of the problem too.

I meant to mention that, but it slipped my mind somehow. But yeah, if you changed from XP to Vista, that could also explain the difference.

I also didn't notice the SE thing. If that card is an SE, then you (perhaps unwittingly) got the cheese version of that chipset, though I can't even find any evidence of the existence of an "SE" version (only X1600XT or X1600PRO). If the card's not an SE, then you should make sure your drivers are correct and up-to-date.

And you never really have to go with a brand-name pre-built. There should be some shop with competent techs in your town who can build you a computer, which is always a better option. Unless you live in the boonies. Or you're just flat broke and looking for the cheapest damn thing you can find. You're not going to get a good performing computer that way though.

Edit: Also, do you remember what the graphics card in your previous computer was? It's always possible that the one in your new HP was actually a downgrade, if your old rig was upgraded at any point. Not likely if it was still running whatever it had from six years ago though...

Update your video card drivers to the correct drivers, install Windows XP instead of Windows Vista. Vista is a big part of the problem, the fact that your PC is HP-built and hence has lots of system-hogging crap pre-installed is another big part of the problem.

i have an 06' hp the piece of shit lasted a year it started acting i even reinstalled windows and it still is twigged out.

in my experience the only thing that HP does great is ultra-high-end peripherals (read: printers and shit)

Good place for computer parts. They be ta Bomb! Bought a whole kit minus a tower and cd burner (had em already) for 900 dollars. It plays games so smooth you would weep at the baby bottomness of it. I'll provide the specs at a later date.. When I am at a computer not on my sidekick 3
