...and I need help deciding between the following:

HP nc8430
Acer Aspire 5652WLMi
Toshiba Satellite A100-847
(You are all welcome to suggest alternatives, as long as they are in the same price range.)

I plan to use the computer as my primary gaming / work system for at least the next couple of months. There, now that you have all the important info, you can start giving me your input (That means *you*, SuAside!).

None of these. Lenovo Thinkpads (previously IBM) are the best laptops around, so go with one of those. Not the cheaper Lenovos, the Thinkpads.

No way. Thinkpads in that price range are way too underpowered. They all either come with an integrated graphics chip or with Radeon X1400, which pretty much disqualifies them as gaming machines in face of comparable notebooks by Toshiba, Acer and HP. Radeon X1600 or GF Go 7600 mean a world of difference in games and gaming benchmarks.

Bad experiences?

My last notebook was HP nx7000, and it died rather painfully (motherboard and video card got fried). The nc8430 has by far the best game performance out of the three notebooks listed above, but I wouldn't even consider purchasing it without a Care Pack.

I was thinking of buying the asus lamborghini but then i realised i was going to pay a lot just for the lamborghini mark.

A laptop? For gaming?

In my experience, laptop processors heat up pretty quick.

In my experience your experience results from choosing the wrong laptop to game on.

I've never undrstood why people get laptops for gaming. I've only seen people use them to throw their college tuition money down the drain as they play WoW in the middle of lectures.

I've never owned one, but Alienware supposedly has some pretty decent gaming machines - but you'd really be paying the price for one.

That Toshiba seems like a good machine. Ideally I'm against laptops for gaming (I had overheating issues with my Dell 9100), but it sounds like a temporary solution (you're looking for one for only a few months?), and the portability might be nice.

2 yr old Packard Ball notebook with huge porn archive (incl. anal, dp, atm, bdsm) and free wallpapers: 300 euros + bj (w/o c)

Not to be a fan boy / Apple whore but have you considered getting a Macbook Pro and putting Boot Camp on it? If you build one to match the specs of the HP it'll cost you allot less (especially if you get 3rd party RAM and a student discount).

I've heard Acer has a pretty bad track record on customer service but this does look like a good deal if you're ok with a 3.5 hour battery.

The Toshiba also looks like a pretty good deal if battery life isn't an issue.

Ratty you should consider the NC8430 they are great reliable notebooks. The company I am working for has rolled out over 200 of theses and we have had nothing but good reviews from our clients.

No. Just... no.

I haven't seen that one in Croatia yet, but I'll look into it.

It isn't *too* much of an issue.

Thanks for the advice.

Noted. Thanks, Serif.

no HP or Dell, please...

Finally, the opinion I've been waiting for.

I found a place which sells Acer 5652 at a discount price, so I'll probably try to get my hands on one of those, then. If not, then I'll go for the Toshiba.

*bump*

You probably don't care, but I ended up buying Toshiba A100-847 and it rocks so far. Many thanks to people who helped me with their input.
