Inside the Vault - Matt Grandstaff

No, don't. No cross-site trolling.

not meaning to derail, but when the subject is about a guy from bethesda, who posts in the bethsoft forums, and the information is concerning that, what are the guidelines for cross-site trolling? it seems like a sketchy thing. i didn't read the post from the bethsoft forum, so i don't know if it was trolling there or not, but i am confused as to policy on this sort of thing when the subject material from the OP seems to suggest that posts from that grandstaff fellow defining character would seem to be valuable to the conversation. it is especially confusing because it appears that the guy was quoted from the forums earlier in this very thread.

again, sorry for the derailing post.

I think it depends on the context. In my case, it was, more or less, a personal issue, and thus, if i would display in all detail what happened, and would colorize it with my, naturally, biased, commentary, it would be indeed, cross-site trolling.

Neutral quotes, which don't approach the topic from a personal viewpoint, and do not display personal problems which occured on another website, aren't cross-site trolling.

Of course, i could call him a dick here without any given reason, or with a reason that isn't directly tied to anything that happened on another website, but that would be low. And still, i believe, frowned upon by this websites moderating and administrating team.

At least, that's how i see it.

We'll never know if he played Fallout.

Now we know:

I’ve played the first game for a few hours, but not nearly enough at this point. I haven’t played Fallout 2.

I enjoy working with the fanbase…it certainly makes my job more interesting with such a strong following for the series.

Well at least he's honest about it. Unlike the rest of the thirteen year olds that work at Beth

Interestingly, if you enter "cross-site trolling" into Google, NMA and the Codex are two of the only three sites to show up. It is our own phrase!

I don't think there's a hard and fast definition, but basically, any specifics make it cross-site trolling: particular moderator actions, users banned, warnings issued, dumb posts, threads gone bad. Even if you're not talking about yourself. What happens in the Bethforum should be dealt with in the Bethforum. Just saying "Bethesda's forums are bad" or something doesn't count, but there's also a limit to how useful that is.

I have to say, I find this all rather puzzling.

How is Grandstaff supposed to filter what's good or bad in the community if he hasn't even played the game and understands the context of community discussion.

Isn't that kind of like sending a monkey to a conference on art and asking him to translate what the community thinks to a group of gorrillas?

Oh I forgot- its that whole reinivention/destruction thing. Its easier to destroy something if you don't really understand the value of it. I mean, its easier to take a flame thrower to an art gallery if you don't understand the value of art.
