Is it possible to have upgradable weapons in Fallout 1?

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to upgrade weapons in Fallout 1, just like you can in Fallout 2? Such as the Desert Eagle with extended magazine, Hunting Rifle with a scope... Right now, you can only upgrade your Plasma Rifle and Power Armor, in the Boneyard, and that only once...

Would it be difficult to copy the character of Algernon (the 'special' fella in the basement of New Reno Arms in Fallout 2) and throw him into some location in Fallout 1? (Then copy all upgraded weapons and their stats as well - I think there's 12 altogether?)

Again, I don't know anything about coding, maybe it's impossible, or extremely difficult or time consuming... but then again, maybe it is just a matter of some sort of advanced 'copy + paste'.

Any coders reading this? What are your opinions?

The 'upgrades' are done by just taking one item from the player and giving them a different one. So it's not too difficult to make a character with a script similar to Algernon's.

Cool, so it IS fairly simple. The reason I thought of Algernon is that his dialogue is fairly simple and has no connection to the Fallout 2 plot, so he could actually fit into Fallout 1 just as well.

I think he'd fit rather well somewhere in a basement in the Hub (Thieve's Guild?), or in the Boneyard (Deathclaws or Gun Runners?)...

Wonder if anyone would be up for doing this... ?
