Okay I don't know whether this belongs on the news thread or not, but since it does involve someone from New Vegas Development Team, I figured I'd be fitting to post it here!

So yeah, as you can see Fallout New Vegas Lead Creative Designer/Writer John Gonzalez announced a few days ago that he rejoined Obsidian Entertainment. Now even though he immediately clarified that he isn't going to be working on a Fallout New Vegas 2, it does open up a lot of possibilities, I mean he could work on original non Fallout related projects. Or maybe even a future Fallout game besides a New Vegas 2, I don't know what do you guys think of this news?

Seems like he's a good writer and going by Outer Worlds Obsidian may need some of that. Kinda funny how anyone that worked on NV gets hounded about it to this day.

I don't expect Obsidian to get the Fallout IP again. FNV was lightning in a bottle and trying to recapture the magic won't happen - that train has left the station. Time passes and abilities and memories fade. When they made FNV it was only six years after BOS and nine for Tactics. The only way I could see it happening is if Microsoft makes an executive decision to force Bethesda's hand as their production pace is slower than a snail's. Like, the TESVI teaser trailer is older than Skyrim was at the time of its release.

maybe the writing will be a little better but that wouldn't save obsidian now they are full of "don't tell how to do my job" and an environment where instead of doing their job they talk politics and hate on some elon musk tweets

I don't want any more Fallout content of any kind. The franchise is a mangled mess of garbage, so bad that people literally have to identify what they consider canon in order to make any sense of it.

Let the franchise die and finally rest in peace. Sometimes dead is better.

Horizon: Zero Dawn is an aggressively mediocre series. Only being pushed because Hulst is now CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment (Actually not anymore, but he is still leading PlayStation’s first-party games). I'm unsure of Gonzalez's role in that game, but even if he is at the height of his powers, one man can't right the ship at Oblivion.

It's an industry plant game. No one cares about the series.

Fallout IP is no hope, considering FNV as an illustrative case. The Beth guys are quite leery of outsourcers who changed their artistic vision. God forbid if someone bend the direction from "high contrast colorful plastic" back to "rusted and dusted post apocalypse".

But Obsidian can still further develop Outer World. their writings failed with 1, but nothing say 2 can not be improved much further. pulp sciency fictiony is a good direction~ Atomic Hearts also prove that there's "something" about sciency fictiony with some rubble piles~

Bethesda suffers from a culture that is afraid of innovation and risk-taking. For over two decades, they've barely evolved their formula, reinforcing institutional laziness. They struck gold once and rode that success for too long—now their competitors have taken a significant lead that Bethesda won't be able to close.

As I recall...Bethesda Studio was caught off guard by seeing UK players playing Oblivion in third person; shocked.

I generally played Oblivion in third person. It didn't occur to them that someone would elect to play the game that way for more than a few moments, as a vanity. Of course they later developed Skyrim with viable TPP gameplay in mind.

I would only ever play Witcher in 3d~iso (style) mode; never FPP, or close TPP. It ruined the series for me when they dropped those alternate camera angles.

They should work with inXile for the next Wasteland game since they're both under the Microsoft umbrella now.
I just really want a Wasteland 4 or a New Vegas-esque spinoff.
