How would Novac be best defended against a attack by a Legion force of eighty men?
I believe that mining the area surrounding the road into Novac is sensible, and would deny the legion the ability to manuveur around Novac and attack from a side that would be less defensible.
Assuming the NCR has a platoon of soldiers outside Nelson, they could probably hold out for some time, but any Centurion worth his salt would probably note that there is a notably hard to defend flank of the NCR position just a little west of the fortifications, and would send a few contubernia to try and dislodge the main NCR force (a squad or two) while killing/defeating a squad protecting the flank. Assuming this happens, a contubernia of legionaires would likely be mauled with a squad of NCR mauled and the two squads(likely with few casualties) left retreating to the bridge. This is where the folk in Novac would likely arm themselves, and aid the NCR, with the Ranger bloke leading them, with Boone and Manny providing fire on Legion decani (decanus's?) to create confusion among the legionaires. The thing that matters the most here is how much ammunition the NCR and Novac militia posess. If they don't have enough to gun down the disorderly mob (it's likely that the legion force will degenerate quickly due to a lack of officers) or make them break and run, then it's unlikely that the NCR platoon or Novac militia will be able to fight them off in a Melee, and they would be force to run away. However, if the NCR and Novac militia can keep up fire on the mob, the legion nerve will likely break, and the battle will turn into a rout.
It's important to note that the legion will suffer high casualties with both outcomes, and it's likely that they will break if the battle devolves into a stalemate.
Any criticisms?
