luck stat question

Lokie

First time out of the vault
i set my luck to 10 but i dont seem to get any more payouts when using a slot machine. anyone else noticed this?

I set mine to 1 at the vigor tester and doc said (before i shot him) I was the luckiest person in the mojave. Maybe things are messed up with luck.

I think he says something in the lines of "Now that don't make a lick of sense. Seems to me like you're the luckiest person in the desert"

As in he's commenting that a luck score of 1 doesn't make sense since you just survived a shot to the head.

Yes, the Luck 10 comment is completely different - the Doctor is surprised the bullet didn't instead magically kill Benny.

I'm not sure about slot machines. I've had little luck with them even on LCK10. BlackJack is the best way to make money in a casino, anyway.

I really wish they gave any indication of what the stat altered in the game. In Fallout 1 and 2 I could at least count on it rolling me up some beneficial random encounters but in Fallout 3 it seemed to merely affect crit / to-hit calculations.

*Sigh*.. it used to be kinda fun.. Oh well.

so does it have an effect on getting better cards in blackjack or does luck no longer have any effect on gambling at all?

^ Not sure, but I would assume so. I won an BJ 19/20 times or so with luck 10, but I haven't tried with low-luck characters. I've assumed that the success is due to high luck.

@Anarchosyn: You get a few luck-based conversation options in NV. Otherwise, it adds to all skills a bit, and modifies crit. chance.

My new character won 32k on the slot machine and got kicked out of Ghamorah he has a 10 luck and it said you're feeling lucky at the top right. So it does but I haven't tried to find out how often it does as I wish to keep playing in Casino's (purposfully losing and then winning ... I do lose 1000 win 3000 from every casino just to keep them off my ass when I want some quick cash.

Nah, wouldn't say so. Granted, it makes the game a lot easier, but I also enjoyed playing my lucky character more than the unlucky one. Dunno why.

BTW, one other luck effect is finding more star caps after drinking S.S.

I got kicked out of two Casino's after "beating" their slot machines with a character that only had mediocre luck (5). Granted it took me about 40 minutes to do so...
