No Mutants Allowed checked with Fallout 1/2 composer Mark Morgan for comments on the recent rumors that he's doing the Fallout: New Vegas soundtrack. The answer:
The rumors are not true.
Short and clear; no Mark Morgan for New Vegas.

No Mark in Fallout

Its like every time I hear this something is dieing a inside me a bit *le sigh*

Ah well one can still have the hope the animations will be better then Obliv ... I mean Fallout 3.

It would be nice if the rumor newsposts came with an actual source. That way, we could judge their veracity, or at least make a note of it when they turned out to be false. For example, where did that Gameinformer nonsense come from? Did someone just pull it off of Neogaf or something?

Yes. It would be. But that's not always possible. Ausir knows well enough not to state rumour as truth, and while he considered his source reliable, he didn't peg the rumour as "100% known to be the truth", and lo and behold it wasn't. That happens.

The GameInformer nonsense was just that, forum nonsense. Often it is correct, sometimes it is bullshit. But we're not going to stop posting unsourced rumours outright, just tag them clearly as having this or that source, and leave scepticism up to the reader.

I'd be sceptical of anything unsourced, and have never personally been offended by scepticism in response to the Witcher:RotWW/TW2 news I brought into the world, because I understand it. If there's no source named, be sceptical.

In this case it comes straight from the man, and that's nice, but not always possible.

So sad. And thus, the hopes that were building are now slightly crushed yet again.

Btw, it's not like the rumor newsposts are presented as fact. They're usually quite clear about possibly being false.

Yeah, but a source can help me to determine whether I'll entertain a rumor or completely disregard it. I don't remember any source being given for the Gameinformer rumor, and I probably wouldn't have bothered to read it at all if it was cited as a random forum post from an anonymous source. Any of us could post a bunch of lies on Gamefaqs or Neogaf.

When are rumors about secret things ever really sourced? If they are sourced, then they aren't rumors anymore.

Damn.

You know, I had the same fear with CoP's STALKER: Call of Pripyat. Initially the first two games had ambient clearly inspired by Morgan's work in Fallout. The latest title switched to orchestral music, and I feared it would decay into the same tiddly toddly generic bad action movie crap we heard in F3.

To my surprise the sountrack turned out great. Powerful, dramatic, dark and eerie. And what's best - it showed you can indeed change the instruments, change the composer, change the style and keep the atmosphere.

Who else agrees the soundtrack in F3 was unremarkable at best?

Aww, I really wanted Mark Morgan to do the soundtrack. :(

the only track I remember is the main theme, because I have heard it in at least 5 movies before.

I guess if all the other points I stated in my list were met, I'd still buy the game. Granted of course if Ion Zur doesn't make something interesting, I'd try and make the soundtrack out of Fallout's soundtracks... It's a bit sad.

That's a shame..
Well as long as it's not Jeremy Soule : ).

Wait.. what? Jeremy Soule is actually talented. It's Inon Zur we're worried about.

They are both talented. But from Soule I never heard anything ambient and I doubt it would end well. Zur's ambient stuff for Fallout 3 I liked, so I would like him for NV. Morgan would of course be the most preferable...why didn't they ask him is beyond me.

Because they're morons.

The same reason why they didn't ask any original Fallout developers to join Bethesda and why they refused the one that asked to.

They simply don't want to make a decent Fallout game. What? You think they couldn't do it? Even Bethesda could do it!

I think.
