Midnight launch party

I'm going to the launch party for New Vegas tonight at Gamestop. It's my first midnight launch of a game, so I was wondering if anyone knew what happens. Is it just a glorified line for people with a preorder? Or is it more of an event?

Has anyone been to one of these in the past?

Seen a couple and they are mostly glorified lines.
Sometimes more stuff happens at key launch parties like developers showing up, cosplay and that kind of thing but the local shop launch parties are just fans hanging about at an odd time which can be quite fun though.

Everything gets a launch party now dude.

Friend of mine went to the Halo: Reach launch at Futureshop in the city. Pretty tame except for the Moms that would show up and drag away their children for sneaking out of the house to pick up the game.

Some gamestops have an event.

MOST (99%) midnight releases are just a line.

IMO arrive at 1145 to fully pay off your game, the line will move quick, the difference between getting there at 9pm and getting there at 1145 will only be a 5 to 10 minute difference of when you get your game past midnight.

The only reason I ask whether it will be a big deal is because the Gamestop called my home to tell me about it. I figured that it would be a little weird to call me up and bug me if it was just a line. They said that it would be starting at 10 PM, so I thought that maybe there would be something going on.

But I guess not, just a line. :seriouslyno:

They usually hand out some free swag.

Well, that doesn't sound too bad. I'll let you all know what happens.

Where do you live? All major "events" will be in large cities (New York and the like, for media attention), if you live in suburbs or smaller city i can almost guarantee they wont even hand stuff out, but if you have the time, go wait outside gamestop for 2 hours, at the very least you will get your game 1 minute before everyone else in line!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do live in a fairly large city, but I would assume that it will be the standard "glorified line." Despite this, I'm anticipating New Vegas enough that I'm willing to go check it out 2 hours early. They did say that "it" would start at 10:00, so I'll go check it out a little after then. I figure that the worst case scenario is one of two things:
1) I will hang out and chat with other Fallout fans
2) I will just wander around the mall in which the Gamestop is located.

that reminds me, you might want to call ahead, since most mall locations actually transfer their games to a non mall location for midnight releases.

basically just call that mall store and ask them if midnight release is there, and while you are at it ask if they are doing anything special from 10-12.

The word you are looking for is you're (which witch or wich I can't remember wich) is a contraction of you are.

It's a script in the forum which replaces "u r" with the little phrase.

Not that I mind, but to avoid getting a mod annoyed for excessive posting-- if you do one of these things and click "preview," you can see the replacement without actually posting.

plz

(edit) these are hilarious, I can't believe them, I'm tempted to make a chain of all those scripts

As long as we are discussing the forums' mechanics-- how do the radiation symbols work? At first I thought that they were just a measure of post count/frequency, but I've seen some people with ~1000 posts who have 1/2 of a radiation sign. And some (like John) who are relatively new but still have one or two.
