mindless collecting

fads are everywhere, they keep bored people occupied and ensure that the disposable income of our youth goes straight into the latest new trend, one common fad would have to be trading card games.

Final Fantasy 8 had it, and I know I spent countless hours trying to gain my collection of cards, one possible idea for fallout 3 would be a collectible card game, there are bound to be some business people still out in the waste land trying to make a quick buck (or bottlecap).

it doesn't even have to be a card game either, but I'm a huge fan of collecting things in video games, they're a little sidequest part of the entire game that you can focus on if you're bored with the main storyline for a while.

I admit it's a reasonably silly idea, but collecting is so much fun!

My bad, i forgot to mention the bobbleheads, but personally I think they're a bit of a stupid idea...

with a card game you could 'battle' NPC's like in FFVIII as a mildly amusing minigame, plus it's a bit more plausible than having bobbleheads littered around the wasteleand unless they're utterly destroyed relics of the past

Fallout 2 already has Tragic: the Gathering. So something other than cardgames might be more apropriate, for originality's sake if nothing else.

I think i need to reword my suggestion a bit better

basically what I'd like to see is collecting, but more than just collecting, to be able to use what you collect as a minigame or even to benefit your journey as opposed to just holding on to them for some 'cheatcode' or similar at the end of your collection.

some kind of gambling involved would be good too

Like Cat's Paws with different issues which you could trade between NPCs, I presume. And every now and then an issue will have some article, like the Energy weapons article from Fallout 2 which you could use to improve some skill a litte.

exactly, something small that can benefit your player if you choose to "collect them all". throw in a few rare "event" type items that might spawn on a dead merc and it should prove fun for all.
