Osceolla????!

how the feck do you beat this mission? I cant do squat. Every time I come anywhere near a guy with a Browning M2 he just wastes me. I even tried picking them off with my best sniper, and they still waste me. What is up? How do you take out 2 mutants with Brownings?

Also, anyone notice this bug....? If you force fire somewhere near an enemy, you always hit no matter how low the odds. There is a bug in the game that makes ALL crossfire hit. So if the enemy shoots at one of my guys, they will miss him because he is so far away, but hit everyone around him nonetheless. It is very annoying.

RE: Osceolla????!

This is one of those missions where you need a few good players with sneak, at least two snipers, and someone with good traps skills. There are quite a few of the mutants that move around on patrols. Take them out with well placed mines, there are tons of mines that can be found on the map - use them to your advantage. Sneaking can get you into very good positions.

The bug with the automatic weapons overspray can be a problem. I think it happens because when the weapon is fired at a target, there is just a roll for the target not anything else in the vicinity. There are ways to avoid this:

1. Don't bunch up your squad, spread them out.

2. When I know there are some SM's with the brownings I have a far off sniper to draw their fire. He should be far enough away to be out of range. I maneuver a heavy-weapons guy as close as possible but crouched behind cover. There is a space of a few seconds between bursts so when that happens I stand up "Q", shoot, and crouch again "A". Do it a few times and you can take them out easily.

RE: Osceolla????!

While I have been doing a lot of CTB/Real time, this is not the mission for it.

Jimmy Jay is right, using mines will help, especially on the people outside the fort. But you can also get them if you are careful in your ambushes and hit them very hard, very fast- I use rocket launchers a lot for this mission, and snipers too. Spread out at far range, as the mutants are not the most precise in their shooting.

I swept around the camp and came in from the North. The problem there is that the corner means you bunch up and they can hit you pretty hard. Also trim off a few badguys from the South too. The tunnels underneath are not so hard, it's the fighting inside the fort that's tough.

Attack it like a pie, and trim at it, taking out a few vulnerable badguys when you can. As you know, pick off the browning guys from a distance (snipers) use your heavy weapons to keep the melee mutants off you.

Good luck. Definitely one of the hardest missions.

RE: Osceolla????!

Thanks guys, some good tips. Maybe I'll try laying a few mines. :)

RE: Osceolla????!

There are two patrols of three mutants in that mission. Watch them and find where they stop. Place a dynamite, a plastic explosive (don't set timers on either) and a remote detonator (think thats the name, it looks like a green box and is activated by a radio thingy) on top of each other in the center of where the three stop. It may take a few tries but with a little skill you can take out all three at once.

Make sure you use the exact set of explosives. The remote detonator isn't enough to set off the dynamite but the plastic explosives on their own don't do enough damage.

I have a party of six, and I am playing this mission at nighttime. Only farsight has a satisfactory chance to hit, all others have to get way too close to get above 0%. All their weapon skills are above 100%, PE=6 or better, and still they are terrible shots.

I have looked at FAQ B (GameFAQs) and it assumes you can enter the southwest passage no problem... I'm finding it rather difficult.

I tried blowing them up with mines, but the Mutants stay put and don't come any closer. Anyone have a good tactic for this mission?

I use the B faq on Gamefaqs myself and although I find it's author largely ignorant and incompetent in some matters (like melee combat or CTB) that's the best one out there.

Pretty easy mission if you ask me (Unless you're playing insane). To tell the truth they all are, that is until you face energy weapons.

Pop 2 Psycho and you're immune to normal... (Which is a joke imo, they should have at least capped it at 90 like it was back in Fallout 2. If you ask me they should have nerfed it big time - it's just too cheesy going in with jackhammer and sweeping dozens of showoff gunmen with bursts of antipersonnel shells Schwarzenegger-style, but I digress, however I restrain myself from using these technique altogether nowadays.), unless they score one of those true criticals which bypass your armor, and since their LK is around 3...

Psychoed Riddick with Powerfist™ and mines took out all outer perimeters by himself at night, it's just important to kill grenadiers with mines, others succumb quickly to silent death and nonstop pummeling with 11 action points. 8-) (Yes, Brownings too) With 150 Sneak I was able to get inside the base no problem and had fun setting up mines to bomb the patrols near the tunnel exit.

Mutants on the platform with explosive tanks behind them can be lured if you shoot the tank real fast then retreat behind that small open building in the middle. Then Riddick sneaks up from behind and... pummels them into oblivion with some 110+ critical.
Underground part is easy. Room filled to the brim with gas tanks can be harvested for experienced if you position gunner to the left of the door and then when you use someone to come near the door to open it the unarmored mutant inside dances to the rhythm of the lead, the other is Riddick's prey. (On a side note: Lone mutants are just too damn easy to pick off with Riddick makes me almost wonder about the point of placing sole mutants/reavers/robots in this game) Flamer guy dies real quiet real fast. Cafeteria mutants can't pierce normal immunity either. The only real problem is Gammorin himslef who scores true criticals for 150+ way too often, but nothing Jax and Brian couldn't handle in one volley. :)

i came here to ask advice about this mission too. glad i found a thread already about it. i tried to bring in a different party composition with my own browning users to fight fire with fire, but those super mutant just kept splattering my guys every time. i will get my snipers back together and try to spread them out more. may return if i keep having trouble
