Modder's / RPG Paradise?

Rat Sass

First time out of the vault
Most of you probably heard of Second Life- a 3D virtual grid for chatting, partying, and virtual feck-beds. For a modder it's a paradise because anything you can imagine can be custom built and scripted. BUT- SL is expensive... a 65000 sq.meter region costs $295 a month. I don't even pay my wife that much.

Some Devs got together and created OpenSim, a platform similar to the SL environment. (Hang in there, I'm getting to it.) Most OpenSim Grids are crap. No physics, shoddy scripting support. Blah visuals. BUT- one of the core Devs started her own grid and has brought it up to speed with the best of the best. AVINATION. (I don't get payed for this)

AVINATION rents regions for $60 a month, allows 45,000 objects per region, has full physics, voice chat, up-to-date scripting, supports mesh uploads, AND supports NPCs, and has an optional CCS system available (Community Combat System) for $15 a month extra.

On a virtual region you can fly (or that can be turned off) and you can also receive fall damage if that's turned on.

Modder's paradise? I think so. I'm a modder and a virtual grid inhabitant, and even a volunteer mentor there just because I'm such a nice guy.

Think of it, builders, creature creators, scripters, RPG players (or FPS). Whatever you can conceive can be built, and controlled. Folks have been whining for ages that there's no FO multiplayer game. MAKE ONE.

I really do not understand why nobody's jumped on this before. Only drawback is that YOU gotta make the custom content. Umm... to a modder that might be fun- I'd be happy as shit to volunteer some Photoshop time.

So- my point? I would love to get involved in creating a fan-based Fallout sim. (Um, can I say Fallout here?) :P

If you're interested, please search for me on Avination and leave me an IM (name's Slash Bolero there.) Or please leave a reply here. I'll be happy to answer any questions. To check it out- join and download the viewer at https://www.avination.com/nc.html

quiet out there!

OK- no replies, positive or negative: either there's no activity here anymore or I'm barking up the wrong wasteland hardwood. Shame- what I introduced above would be fun to do as a group but I would not tackle it alone and expect to do a good job of it.

Well, if anyone finds this post interesting (or finds it at all) I'll be checking my email for a reply now and then.

Played Second Life for a while, few years back. While it was nice for "modders" (because it wasn't really modding, as adding content was pretty much a crucial part of the game, right?) and creative people, all the systems were simply lacking in a lot of fields. It just doesn't feel as it should. Not mentioning that you had to pay even for uploading a specific texture (freebie ones sucked) or WORK in game (It was actually better to work in McDonalds and dump some money into Lindens lol. Way more efficient)
Totally not for me. I'll better stick to my 4x mods.

Btw: There is "FO multiplayer game" already and it's called FOnline.

Someone registering exclusively to promote some game... pardon most of us if that just sounds like a spam bot and we ignore it. Because that's what I am gonna do.

Yea, this reads more like a sales pitch than an effort to discuss the idea.

I just have no interest in this type of system, and as SmartCheetah said, people have already put work into other systems in order to make an online Fallout.

the concept of Second Life is simply to weird for most people. It doesnt offer really that much, and its really only interesting if you use it like some kind of online sex-portal.
