More lies and fun at the house of Caen

Where'd That 6th Toe Come From?
As unbelievable as it might sound, Interplay are still trying to conivnce people it's all rumors and Fallout 3 is still under review.

IGN has posted an article which quotes Interplay's investor relations department that more or less denies everything.
Here's a small snip: <blockquote>"For the record," says Interplay, "Black Isle Studios remains open with projects pending, the status of Fallout 3 is under review, and Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel will ship on January 13."</blockquote> You can read the whole thing here.

Well, it looks like everything is ok and Fallout 3 isn't cancelled. And all those former BIS members posting in our forums are figments of your imagination.
Right.

Thanks for all those who sent us e-mails about this story.

heh :?

Maybe they realised how BADLY they screwed up and are trying to find a way to undo the damage they have caused....

Fat chance.

Do y'all think FOBOBOSOSOS 2 might end up with a FO3 label on it? I wouldn't be surprised.

If this is the case, they would make things even worse.

We'all think FoPOS2 will be a console "game".

What a load of BS. What IP think they're going to accomplish? The whole industry knows they're soon to be a rotting corpse, thrown upon the garbage heap.

I'd just like Interplay to know that I am very embarrassed to have participated in the frenzy over the supposed cancellation of Fallout 3 and the supposed firings of all the BIS staff, all over unfounded rumors, and I sincerely apologize. Thanks, Interplay, for setting the record straight and quashing all these vicious rumors started by fanatical fans for no other reason than to bite the hand that feeds it.

PS - The above is not true, much like your press releases.

This has to be the biggest bunch of bullshit I've ever seen.. I mean.. Ever. Damn, that's pathetic, even for Lord Caen and Darth Molitor.

It's a pathetic attempt to save face. I'm sure they didn't expect the word about the Sack of Black Isle to spread so quickly and completely. They're terribly worried about their uber-valuable stock slipping down to maybe $.04....

They're better off just owning up to what they did - the backlash won't be as bad copared to what hell they're catching over the cloak & dagger-ish way they've handled it so far.

You know, if they came completely clean today, right this second, it wouldn't help the damage already caused.

IP is fucked, and they know it.

Possibly this is damage control because of the backlash caused by cancelling VB and BIS. It would be nice to think enough people were angry to make interplay very worried about their future.

It's possible that Interplay is trying to backpedal on their mistake and recover Fallout 3 for release. Of course, it is extremely unlikely considering the bad blood spurting from prominent developers all over the INTARWEB, and the general fan distrust of the company's ability to produce a good game.

If Interplay tried this, would we fans still buy the game? If they received any kind of royalties from the sale, would we buy it, or pirate it out of spite?

Would a complete apology fix things? How about admitting they botched it and releasing all Fallout 3 engine code and resources as open source?

Can Interplay ever restore their reputation amongst hardcore game fans? Besides reactionary responses of "commit hari-kari on a live webcam", is there anything they could do to redeem themselves?

This is like when you're a little kid, and you get caught doing something real bad that you weren't supposed to be doing. Since you still have the maturity of a 4 year old, you just try and lie your way out of getting in trouble. Interplay is now that 4 year old, except its more like a 4 year old red headed step child. Its getting the crap beaten out of it every day, and there's nothing it can realistically do about it.

That's what I am thinking, I think they now realise just how badly they screwed up.

Burn Interplay! Burn!

While I hate to shine a ray of hope or to mislead, it's not that unusual for a company going through hard times to lay off personnel or to shut down projects. Sometimes employees are reinstated, projects get reinitiated.

Interplay is probably lying to fans and investors. It may be trying to shore up confidence before the release of the next title, especially from investors. But it might also be signalling that it is listening to public pressure, as doubtful as that may seem.

Looking at the articles Dan posted, however, it looks more like bullshit to me. At least based on this, from the article-

Which brings us up to our new guest star, Interplay's investor relations department, with their official denial of the stories. "For the record," says Interplay, "Black Isle Studios remains open with projects pending, the status of Fallout 3 is under review, and Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel will ship on January 13."

As far as this "under review" status for Fallout 3, Interplay had this to say: "Fallout lives...now that is not to say we have a new Fallout PC game coming in the next few months, but management will do what it can to maximize the intellectual property it owns and the fan base it has, within the financial parameters it must operate."

Oh please sell FO to someone who cares!
