Mutants Rising Demo Released

Mutants Rising is a project you should all be familiar with by now. It is one of the last FO2 TCs announced (2003) in the golden days of Fallout 2 modding to survive. This is the second demo released.

As promised, the new demo of Mutants Rising is live now!

The demo comprises the complete first location of the game, with all of its quests and characters. It also includes several of the new game features we introduced, most notably the overhauled healing system. We hope the demo will give you a good taste of what the mod is going to look like in the end, and that you will like it.

To get your hands on the demo, you can either download the Smart Installer version, or the Manual Install pack:
* Smart Installer - Download the file on your hard drive and double click on it. When the Installer window appears, choose "Install" and follow the instructions on screen.

* Manual Install - If the Installer doesn't work for you for some reason, or if you're already familiar with installing Fallout 2 mods, you can try the Manual Install. Download the ZIP file into your Fallout 2 installation directory and unpack it there. A new folder should appear, named "MutantsRising". Go inside it and read the readme for the remaining installation details.

We're anxious to have your opinions, so make sure to check out our forums here on NMA and on our website, so you can leave comments. Should you find any bugs or have any questions, please post them in their respsctive threads on the forum too. Have a good time with Mutants Rising!

Keep in mind- if you have any Fallout 2 language version which is not English, you'll have to rename the "english" folder in /data/text/ to your Fallout 2's language (i.e. "german" for the german version). Also you'll have to open the fallout2.cfg and change "language=english" to i.e. "language=german" or the game won't run.

Downloading the demo as I write this post, can't wait to try it out! :D *searches for Fallout 2 CD*

Got into it for an hour or two, so far liking it very much. Can't wait for the full release :)

Downloading the installer as we speak.. since I don't have FO2 installed on my PC at the moment, is there anything else I should install before this, such as the High Resolution mod?

You only need to have Fallout 2 installed (or at least, have the files master.dat and critter.dat). Everything else needed for the demo to play is already included. We don't use the Hero Appearance Mod, but there might be some problems if you use it with the demo (missing knife and hammer animations for tribal sets - unless they've been done already, can't remember).

Problem.

I got the Mutants Rising installation file.
I installed it into C:/Program (x86) (without thinking)
And the installation process said "skipped" over and over.
So when I clicked the .exe on the deskop it obviously didn't start.
So I clicked the installation file again and tried with "uninstall" but then the installation window just shuts down.

I tried going to Program (x86) to remove the new folder, thing is, it doesn't exist.
Now I have no idea how to uninstall the mod so I can reinstall it.

You can always reinstall it. The button is greyed out, but you can still click it (excatly for the case that something went wrong with the installation).

Also keep in mind, that like it's written, you should point the directory to your Fallout 2 installation, else MR will never work. So as long as Fallout 2 isn't in a C:/Program (x86)/Fallout 2 folder, it will not work.

In worst case, use the manual installation and extract everything manually in your Fallout 2 folder. If I am not mistaken now, this will have pretty much the same effect as pointing the installer to the directory.

Now that I think about it, I should have checked for if the master.dat and critter.dat being available in the installation folder and making the installation possible / impossible based on this. Will keep that in mind for the next time...

Okay I did it right this time but when I try to launch it from the Mutants Rising folder it says:

Couldn't find/load text fonts

[edit]

Actaully nevermind, I fixed it.

I have only played an hour or so but so far so good, feels very well built. I'm not sure I like the direct link with FO2, though.

I'm the only one having a missing tile in Cassidy's house?

MR has always been meant as a sort of a follow-up to Fallout 2, so the link is hardly a surprise (or is it?). In any case, the initial part is quite heavy with references, true, but the rest of the story is pretty much original, with new factions and NPCs, etc. Oh, and no Enclave.

No, you're not the only one. It's a bug, but hopefully not a game-breaking one. (it will be corrected of course)

going to download now but do we have an estimated time/hours?
how long is it?
thanks

It's pretty short. I think you should be done with it within two hours, unless you read all possible dialogue, etc. But choosing various characters can yield very different playthroughs (e.g. combat-dude vs. diplomatic-dude). There are also some variations depending on your character's gender and you should definitely try out playing a dumb dude for some unique quests and locations.

Thanks for playing! Have fun and don't forget to post your impressions here.
