Mutants Rising update

It's been a while, so it's good to hear back from the guys over at Mutants Rising, the Fallout 2 total conversion modding project.
I realise that many of you have been eagerly anticipating this project and as such I have an apology to make. The website has not been kept up to date as was hoped and we haven't been around NMA for a while either. There has been valid reasons for this but rather than dwell on the past, we are looking to the future. The website will undergo periodic updates to keep everyone informed of what we are doing.

The key piece of news this month is the mod progress from the main page. This is not a lie: we are very close to the end of the project. The team has been very active over the summer and have spent countless hours on furthering the project. Only two towns are left to be worked on and all the others are either completed or well under development.

The artistic team, consisting of Continuum, Dopefish and Equilerex have completed countless pieces of art and each town (with one exception) now has a loading screen. It has almost reached the point where the writers can't come up with any new artwork for them to make!

Public, our new musician, is a one man musical army. He has created, along with help from Emink, new music for almost every town in the game. The atmosphere of Mutants Rising has taken on a personality all of it's own.

Animalize, our only full time mapper, has completed maps for no less than four full towns all on his own as well as maps for smaller, less involved areas. Whilst it is true that many of the team are capable mappers, none of us live up to his high standards.

Below are a few juicy screenshots and tidbits just to keep you all coming back for more!

The above artwork was designed for a disused train station. (surprised?) It plays an integral part in the completion of the game.

Above is a brief screenshot of the final area of the game. Continuum has taken it upon his shoulders to make a complete set of new art for this area to ensure Mutants Rising has the lasting effect that a mod of it's size deserves.
Thanks Chris Parks.

Well, those screenshots are looking teh secks for a start. Keep up the good work fellas. :)

The visuals look awesome ! It must take real talent to make them seem such a seamless part of Fallout world.

Gotta love that car, keep up the good work, can't wait to get my hands on it! Somehow it seems like a train just belongs in Fallout.

The armored train is neat. Looks like it doesn't have wheels, though. Would be nice to be able to take a ride on it to another settlement.

Looks like it's mag lev, notice the red lights on the rail and the funky things in place of wheels?

Armored truck looks pretty cool though it does look pretty weird between the two rear wheels. Is there supposed to be a flatbed back there, bare axle, or what?

Very nice!! I am anxiously waiting for Mutants Rising.

The car is neat, but I have a little suggestion to Continuum: put a little motor between the rear wheels and see the result.

Keep up the good work, guys!

Uh, what lights, man? Those are the bolts, tie plates and spikes that hold the wooden sleepers to the rails. And those 'funky things' look suspiciously like bricks or something.

The read things between/attaching the rails to the ties is what I was talking about. I live near railroad tracks and can assure you that those are not there so I made a guess about what they were. If they're supposed to be spikes then I don't see it (and I've never seen red ones) but I guess that could just be due to the poor quality of the screen cap. As for what you were calling bricks, I can see that but I can also see them being something "techie" stolen from an interior but I was trying to interpret what they were supposed to be. All in all, I think a jet powered mag lev train is very '50's retro futuristic, even if it is a strange/pointless combination.

I hope we'll be able to play it soon.

It won't actually be that long before we have a playable internal build.

Keep up the good work and please at least try to keep us updated on a somewhat regular level!

That's my fault. I've had a hectic summer and not had time to do everything I wanted to do. I chose to work on the mod rather than spend time on the website. I'll do a better job in future.

Both train and the railroad looks below-average to me and I'd never let it through. Not fitting in.

The car is neat.

I've had that luck that I could see the whole building body and it's epic. A real peak of the Fallout sexiness, really. On the screen, that's only a decent bite of something great.

I admire the fact they can create such great graphics, but...

The above artwork was designed for a disused train station.

I traveled a lot with train and have been on many train stations. Neither one of them had a sidewalk and/or an asphalt road going directly into railroad, stopping there and continuing on the other side. It has little to do with common sense so it should be addressed.

Weren't renders of it posted somewhere in the modding subforum?

I only posted one WIPie taken from totally different perspective...

As for the car: rear looks in this way, because you can't enter to it in normal way (there's no doors from the sides! :o ), so the only way is to get there from the back. Also, more people can be transported, because inside there's only place for two. So the rest is standing like in damn Chariot! :D

(do you remember Van Buren concept art?)

The picture is only done so you can see the artwork.

:x Bit harsh...
