New developer diary at Bethesda

Not that I'm challenging that, but those plans and a long enough time to improve the vehicle and fuel cells....
Then the question is really whether the alloted time is enough. You've got somewhere around 35 years since FO2 and still need enough time for the girl to go from 7 to 'grown woman' and also leaves the gaping hole of why the hell the Outcasts didn't take the vertibird(s) and fly back to the real BoS.

Am I the only one feeling they are going to make a general copy-paste of Fallout 1, in terms of general plot outline and progression?
No. Not at all.
Now we know what they meant when they said they'd stick to the first one. ctrl+c ctrl+v

I also assume that if the Brotherhood made Vertibirds that they would be very careful in their use.

Also, on what energy source do Vertibirds run?
The Enclave had to establish a refuelling base (Navarro) because of the distance between their headquarters and the mainland.

In order to cross the wasteland the Brotherhood would have to set up supply posts throughout the wasteland and probably leave paladins behind to guard these.

I would find it assumable that the Enclave may have hidden supply depots throughout the US mainland but the Brotherhood could not know about these, well not without taking Navarro.

Vertibirds in Fallout 3 use nukular power : no need for supply posts. Solved. :ok:

Seriously now, this is the kind of problems the target audience of Bethesda usually do not think of. And, well, me neither because I'm dumb but I should !

PS: the BoS didn't exist before the 'original' Maxson sent his wife & child into the wastes while staying behind himself. it's the son that founded the BoS after those events.

No, that's information from the non-canon Brotherhood Code holodisk, found in the game files, but not in the game itself. It was an early concept that was changed later on. According to the canon (actually found in the game) Captain Maxson's Diary and Sophia Tape, as well as the Fallout Bible timeline, Roger Maxson led his people to Lost Hills himself and founded BOS.

Hello Briosafreak,

This guy is on the FO3 team right?

Well it seems pretty clear that they didn't 'get it'.
Stop insulting people and just tell honestly that you made your own stuff up.

brios is really teh man. He sill keeps following cheng's blog d:

I mean, I quite reading it almost immediately after bethblog was made.

:EDIT:
Also, he doesn't like me for some reason, so I don't like him.

I have a feeling they all hate you, my dear Morbus, you are like a young Rosh in the BIS days :)

Hell yeah! I'm the man!

I hope they include me in the game as Micro Forté did to rosh :)

Somehow, I think I can't live up to the legacy... :P

I'm confused, Biosafreak doesn't like you, or Cheng doesn't like you?

Also, I must have missed Rosh's appearance in Fallout Tactics.

Edit:

Found out about Rosh.
Guess I will have to piss off Bethesda in order to make an appearance, with my luck and username it would probably be some retarded children's story character.

I can't speak for him, but I'd say we're eachother's friends, even though we never personally met.

Roshambo. Paladin of the fake Brotherhood of Steel. Pisses on other people's drink. Mad.

My nickname is nice for those things. :P I hope they don't make something like keeng ra'at or the other dude over at gecko...

I'm apalled. The quality of the writing is atrocious. In Fallout 2, the Brotherhood have direct evidence that all remainders of the government are on a oil tanker off the coast. The "pentagon" and anything else that was government property before-hand would all be THERE. They also have the Vertibird plans, and most likely got a suit of powered armor from the Navarro land-base, which they could easily over-power as they'd get no new reinforcements from the oil derreck anymore. Why the BoS would send a group to check out the Pentagon in the East, there are no reasons. It's simply stupid.

They don't care about the canon. They're just making a brand new universe loosely based on a post-apocalyptic setting.

Basically, what I see going here is the whole "reference canon" switcheroo ploy going on here.

By referencing old events, they can claim that they're taking the story in an appropriate direction regardless of what they do with it.

For all we know, they could introduce the "new" Enclave as the outcast Brotherhood members and then use their bizzare retroactive logic to pound a square peg into a round hole.

The worst part about this is that the mass majority of people who play this will belay any criticisms of this because Bethesda is "working off of canon".

Just like how they destroyed Spider-Man's marriage to MJ. Brand New Day my ass.

Story looks fine to me, concept art looks pretty good. Overall pretty happy. Still wonder why the super mutants are there, though if they're more directly connected to the story they might not tell you their story.

Then again, whatever the BoS found might be connected to what your dad left the vault for. Then again again, I wonder how the official BoS knows about anything happening with DC BoS. Not really sure how they'd communicate.

It seems that I was right about Bethesda replacing all weapons and armour from Fallout setting with their own.
The weapons look like FoPoS weapons.

The story may make some sense at a first glance but doesn't endure a detailed examination.
As I said before, adding both BoS and Supermutants looks forced and is uncreative.

There is no way common weapons on EC would look like those on WC. Simply, without contact or trade they would develop and evolve in different way. That part is logical. The only WC weapons would appear if BoS made their own weapons in Citadel.
It's the story that doesn't hold water. Some said it's 35 after FO2 and 7year girls has grown to slow? Come on, XB360 much, do they? it makes sense they started towards EC maybe 25 years after FO2, a gimmick to remove criticism for bad writing - why BoS is changing attitude, why the need to go EC - hey it's been 25 years, USA politics changed 10 times in that amount of time (which is true - so why are u all bitching about the change in BoS politics)
What's undecided is - how they got to EC (by foot/cart very suspicious, bu vertibirds - well possible to perfect in 25 years, but to send 2-3 on a mission, doubtful. By tanks or cars   come on)
Supermutants as Chinese flavor muties, possible but "Turning point ,Fall of liberty" style jingoism. Like the artist sketches this looks like an early draft of the story. And F them, it too big a spoiler so early in dev cycle.

Wow, and I thought I was bad for skipping words while typing...

One, Yes way they would be the same, they share the same original manufacturers, do you THINK that they're making laser rifles in Fallout? No they're finding them in military institutions and whatnot, they don't have the ability to make much more than a finely crafted .223 special even after 50 years of re-learning!

Two, the 7 year old girl bit if I am not mistaken is that how would a 7 year old survive the trek, surrounded by xenophobic men in power armor, how would she survive the radiation, the diseases, the lack of food and water, not to mention the regular raider attacks, as BoS stick out like a sore thumb in the desert, hello chrome on sand!

Yes USA has changed it's structure (I'm assuming that's what you mean) several times now, however this is a technophile religion we're talking about, not an institute of public governance (and the occasional scandal), how often have you seen the Roman Catholic Church change it's initiation or methods before the turn of the century?

It's not undecided, they got two options, to foot it or to Brahmn and cart it, however both options it is probably only a 5% success rate of reaching there, and probably under 1% of the entire group making it there in one piece. Vertibirds are out because of their massive fuel consumption (do you realize how much gas it takes to keep a normal helicopter in the sky, let alone something like a Vertibird?)

The Chinese (perhaps...) Super Mutants, how the hell would they cross the ocean, last I checked the Chinese were not in the process of invading America before the bombs fell, instead they were covertly creating their own muties after stealing the tech from the American Scientists(I am not 100% on this one mind you, I think I read it in one of Beth's excuses for the Washington Muties, but I am likely mistaken).

How did those pesky muties cross the ocean, in all likelihood they'd be too busy rampaging throughout China rather than hunkering down in Washington, perhaps a small contingent like chinatown in San Fran could have landed, but there's no way an entire army would have breached shore WHILE the bombs were dropping...

Another inconsistency - while the diary mentions the Department of Defense, according to Maxson Log, the department was called War Department:

Unless otherwise directed, from a proper representative of the War Department, this order will stand as written.

Almost all weapons in Fallout are pre-war and a lot of them were made by foreign manufacturers.
