Just thought I'd toss this together as it's both fairly minor.

MCV UK reports Fallout: New Vegas has already overtaken its predecessor in preorders. Thanks WorstUserNameEver.

Meanwhile, GameBanshee points out the Fallout 3 GotY edition is available for $24.95 on Direct2Drive. That's US (or NA region) only, EU has to settle for Fallout 3 at £10.95 (about 13 EUR).

You know, on the one hand it's suprising that NV has more pre-orders than 3 because the hype levels for 3 were off the charts. But on the other hand, Fallout 3 hoarded in a staggering amount of fanbois who think this is THE sequel to Fallout (they don't think about the 3, Fallout 3 = Fallout ANYTHING to them), deepening the potential customers pool.

About the sales prices, these are actually pretty good for the amount of content you get, especially on the GOTY edition. I'm just talking amount.

In short: no suprises here. Let's just hope NV lives up to the expectations. I do have my doubts about Obsidian making a title comparable to F1 and 2, (havn't played Tactics) after Alpha Protocol's shoddy execution. And goddamn do I hate that engine and the animations it's known for. Just buy the Euphoria engine or something, anything's better than re-using Beth's in house animations.

That is pretty cool, goes to show that most of the people who got Fallout 3 are getting New Vegas. Obsidian is lucky that Bethesda reeled in such a large fanbase with that title. And hype doesn't mean a game is no good. Fable had lots of hype, a LOT of hype, but it was still a great game, I think an amazing one. Of course, it probably isn't the type of game you fellas would enjoy. To each his own.

The first Fable was kind of sucky actually.

Fable II had the advantage of not being sold as Peter Molyneux's seed of Jesus Pt. 2, but didn't do enough to improve on the mechanics or general concept of the series.

However, I'm glad that New Vegas is so popular, I'm just really hoping that it's not the game that suffers the backlash from Fallout 3's hype.

That would be really unfair.

I'm glad that Obsidian is finally going to get some commercial success under their belts.

Hmm, this contradicts with that F:NV wasn't anything special on E3 (unlike Fallout 3). Oh, well. I take this as good news.

That's not exactly an accurate interpretation of the news, is it? For this to be true, the preorders should reach the sum of nearly the more than four millions of sold Fallout 3 (as are claimed by Bethesda); which you'll agree is most probably far from true.

By the way, I've just remembered another game that had its own record in preorders: FO Tactics :wiggle:

While I don't know how much of an influence it could have, it should be noted that Fallout 3 didn't have pre-order bonuses.

Still, good for Obsidian I guess.

I'm mostly curious how much credit Obsidian will get from this, or if Bethesda will steal it all?

Good news for Obsidian.

I hope they can hit it big with NV, as while AP sold rather poorly, but still a great game.

Bethesda gets the lions share…Obsidian would have been paid for their part and probably won’t receive any further funds, but I could be wrong…so their true reward might be an improvement in their reputation. :?

I'm sure they'll get royalties. And there's certainly nothing wrong with a better reputation.

AFAIK that is bullshit. As the above poster pointed out there were keyrings going around if you pre-ordered. I think there was another thing as well, but I forgot.

Well if we're just talking about the pre-orders, then Bethesda probably deserves most of the credit. In terms of the reaction to the game, I think Obsidian will get credit to the extent that people appreciate the writing and story. Unfortunately, a lot of critics don't seem to care about that, judging from the reaction that Alpha Protocol received. And those critics will probably ding it for being a rehash.

False. AP sold pretty well considering the reviews. 700k from launch to the 2nd of august.

You misinterpret that number. AP had a significant price-drop in Europe and still only had 700K sales world-wide on three platforms. It's a flop.

Oh, didn't know that.
Still, it didn't have the in-game bonuses, as Ausir points out.
Again, I'm not sure how that would really matter, just feel like I had to point out.
