Nuka Break/Obsidian video interview

Well, at least, Fallout 2 didn't manage to fuck up the way Fallout 3 did. The latter just had forced type of humor, as if they added it because 'that makes Fallout'. Besides, some of the lines in that game actually were somewhat nice, and some surpassed your average Fallout 1 humor.

I didn't exactly find the part of blind optimism and hope funny (I'm such myself, in one way or another), but yes, dialogue could sometimes be outright deadly. If a game goes on with 'The settlement to the north has a dragon, which has terrorized it for the last 400 years...' and bla-bla-bla it just bores me to death.

It's not "haha" humor, it's darkly comedic, by juxtaposing 50s optimism with the reality of post-apocalyptic life. And smarmy dialog.

A lot of later titles, especially Fallout 2 and 3, confused this with slapstick humor.

That's what I thought which is why I was so weirded out by people saying stuff like they couldn't stop laughing and bringing up Moira which I felt was one of the oddest, most awkward attempts at a comedic character in a video game I've ever seen.

Although now that I look through the video again it's mostly the first interviewer who mentions how funny he found everything (and brings up Moira) and Tim Cain only comments on the dark humor inspired by government propaganda from the 50s. My mistake.

I agree with BN, during the whole interview I was just irked by the directionless questions by the interviewer (not to mention the his constant interruptions...). Interviews aren't casual conversations on camera, I wanted to hear the developers finish, not exactly what the interviewer had to say. Though, in reality, I really liked that MCA and Tim Cain found themselves in the same room talking about Fallout. So it was a treat.

As for the Nuka Break guys, I've seen one epp and I thought it was a well done indie/fan movie. However, it's heavily inspired by the Fallout 3 games which turned me off. Though, I think it's great Obsidian gave them the time and attention for an interview, even if it was awkward cross interviewing the two groups.

I thought the interview was pretty good. sure, one might wonder why it was done in the first place, bit it was funny and it was nice to see the interaction between those people. also, I think the first interviewer was alright. the second one was a bit awkward however, it was obvious that he was nervous and wanted to ask the developers "intelligent" questions. he didn't really care about the Nuka Break guys being there.

MCA seems like such a down-to-earth and nice guy.

Sound quality was really poor in both clips; looked like the mic on the table got bumped between interviews and was pointing more up at an angle; very hard to hear the interviewees especially in the second clip (especially Tim Cain sitting on the far end).

And I agree about the interviewers: both asked questions that were varying degrees of inane or self-serving. I did think part 1 was worth listening to, though, for the answers and interchange among the interviewees. And because I could actually make out everything they were saying, once I cranked the volume up.
