OMG the bestest news ever! RD IS BACK!

I hope the focus more on comedy than on the drama. Besides that, great news, I hope it is fun enough for more seasons to be launched. "red dwarf the next generation" would be fun.
 
I actually read the books before I saw the shows, and they are really good. Well the second one starts out a bit odd. But they are just really funny and also thought provoking as they dissect various human personalities and societal faults within the Red Dwarf universe. The books are right up their with the Hitchhiker's Guide books.

The probable reason that the books are so good but also are true to the series is that they were written by the shows two writers. I believe the wrote the books a little bit after some of the early seasons. The shows are much cornier in comparison (partly due to the production values of the sets and special effects), but in a way that is very endearing especially due to the fine (though totally over the top) performances.
 
books came out first. it was originally supposed to be a recurring radio show, they wrote up some "episodes" it got cancelled and then they got a publisher for a book, then they managed to sell the series to BBC.

the books and series are similar but divergent. both are good.

at least they are keeping the same cast, dont know about cloe annette though.
