PC Gamer's latest New Vegas hands-on tells of a game that "looks like a fuller, funner Fallout" where "new quests crop up with happy regularity". And there are the main factions:
It’s here that New Vegas’ new currencies become important. The game’s two confirmed factions – the slave-taking Caesar’s Legion and the New California Rangers – have their own money in addition to Fallout 3’s bottlecaps.

We’ve seen these factions before: both are interwoven into Fallout mythology. Caesar’s Legion like to dress in leather skirts and sport fetching centurion-style brushes on their helmets. I’d advise against admiring their sartorial choice though: they’re a slaving faction, and friendly dalliances with their leaders will undoubtedly make your reputation plumb new depths.
Yes who can even wait to meet up with the Caesar's Legion of old. The preview also describes a Novac quest that you can check out if you have no fear of spoilers.

The guy might be pretending he's even played Fallout 1 or 2. :P

Either that or he considers Van Buren and its Caesar's Legion part of the "official" Fallout canon.

But I already know how my reputation will plummet after joining the Legion! I used to join 'em in all my FO2 playthroughs!

This "NCR" on the other hand, I'm not familiar with... guess it was featured in FOPOS or something.

Reviewers pretending to have played Fallout 1 and 2 seems to be happening fairly often.

Not quite as bad as that guy who went about praising all the multiple solutions to rescuing Tandi that were mostly made up though.

Why so cynical, maybe this reviewer does know about Van Buren? Why does he have to be a poser and ignorant to the original series? The people at this site aren't the only ones who have any knowledge of the previous Fallouts. Nothing special or rare about it. Game sounds good though.

It is more the fact that Caesar's Legion cannot in any way be considered to be
interwoven into Fallout mythology
as not a single released game so much as mentions them(to my knowledge at least)

Same shit, different game.

We saw the exact same thing when FO3 was release. "fans" of the previous Fallouts went out of their way to "prove" they played the old ones. Often making it blatantly obvious to everyone who did play them that they hadn't, of course...

How's that any different than this crap?:

I wonder when we'll get to see images of the white jumpsuit Elvis gang...

Here at NMA, people like to pretend the only people in the entire world who played Fallout & Fallout 2 are them, and that they're the only ones in the world who knew about Van Buren. Anybody else is automatically a poser or a shill paid by Bethesda.

You have learnt the truth…and must now be eliminated… :look:

aren't we? haha. but seriously, reviewers always seem like they've just skimmed a FAQ or wiki about the games themselves. and honestly, prior to "Fallout" 3, i never really met a lot of people who knew about the games whether in person (we're talking a total of 6 f***ing people) or online until coming here.

but i do agree that van buren was never made and isn't really canon. though i personally don't accept anything in "Fallout" 3 canon either.

It makes me wonder, because of the lack of a Fallout sequel that really feels like a Fallout sequel I considered everything in Van Buren to be canon even though it never came on the screen.

Do members here think that New Vegas will be a good replacement?
Storywise I mean, not gameplay wise.

This. Don't judge too quickly.

I guess thats almost impossible to say without playing it.

His wording pretty much precludes that from being an explanation.

Not sure why any of you think this blatant bit of lazy and false journalism is worth your time defending, but eh.

If he had actually played the ORIGINAL Fallout you would think he would have mentioned blowing up Megaton. That was such an epic moment!!! and one with REAL consequences! It took dozens of bottles of water before people forgave you.

I didn't actually know it was Rangers vs. Caesar's Legion, just assumed it was New California Republic as a whole.

It is NCR as a whole. The rangers are just a small part of it.

All the comments on that page are "Why aren't the graphics better?"

Ignoring the fact that it's an alpha build.

Anything that reaches KOTOR's level of graphics = alright by me.
