So, anyone else around these parts love Phantasy Star Online and look forward to (hopefully) a proper revival? Universe was okay for a while, but just didn't have the same... whatever it was that PSO had.

Would be cool if I could find a couple NMA people I could play with once it comes out. Finding good party members in online games is such a chore I often find myself just going it alone most the time.

Edit: Damn it, how do you embed a youtube video here? Youtube tags aren't working for me.

I loves me some PSO, played it on the Dreamcast, PC (hacked version obviously as I'm not Japanese) and on the Gamecube.
Universe was okay but it just didn't feel the same, Phantasy Star Zero is a lot like PSO but limited because it's on the DS.
PSO 2 does look very interesting, though the swords are way too frikkin big.

Give me an announcement for Phantasy Star V and they maybe then I'll be excited. Actually I won't be cynical here; if they made a V, I'd completely shit myself from excitement.

Hah, yeah, I'm hoping those are just some extreme representatives of the Sword class and Sabers and such will be more reasonable.

And yes, the only thing that would excite me more than PSO2 does would be a good looking Phantasy Star V. I'm not holding my breath for that one though. Oh, and a Skies of Arcadia 2.

I hope this will actually have people playing it. Zero had not a single person online.

I can never get into MMOs. Either it's deadly boring because of grind and no ppl online, or you get into it and then you have no free time left to do anything else.

Well PSO isn't an MMO per se. It's more like playing Diablo on Bnet. Except for the lobbies (and player shops etc. if they keep those things from Universe).

Wow, definitely looking forward to this one (while simultaneously lamenting the death of my free time to it). The first game on the Dreamcast was one of my all-time favorites, so PSU on the 360 was a huge disappointment. This basically looks like what a next-gen PSO should look like.

As for it being categorized as an MMO, that it definitely isn't. I've tried, really tried to get into MMO's (Everquest, Ultima Online, Final Fantasy XI, Lord of the Rings Online, etc.) and they literally bore me to tears after the first couple of weeks (that and I really don't like my games becoming an obligation, as seems to be commonplace thanks to the social component in most MMO's). It's more of a straight-up dungeon-crawler/loot hunt that was as much fun playing solo as it was teaming-up. The multiplayer aspect never seemed absolutely mandatory (although it made beating bosses a lot easier), but it also never felt like a limiting factor either. Very well-balanced, fun game...

So, the second closed alpha test has closed and I was lucky enough to participate. I have to say, the game is looking quite good for being in alpha and I can't wait for the release (though that's likely a ways off, I'd guess late 2012 assuming no big delays).

While an NA/EU release hasn't been specifically confirmed, it's basically a given. The only questions are: will it be simultaneous with the Japanese launch or will we have to wait? Will the servers be unified or split? And if the latter, will we get the same care and support as the JP servers or will we get shafted by SEGA of America like PSU's non-JP servers did?

Anyway, I took some videos of my alpha2 playtime if anyone is interested: My Youtube Channel

Any interest in these parts? One of my problems with online games is always finding a reliable group to play with.[/url]

I'll probably get it as me likes PSO.

Alpha footage looks interesting, guess they'll iron out the animation glitches later. Interesting to see what higher level fighting is like.

For anyone who might be interested, you can download a free character creation demo plus benchmark for PSO2 here.

Also, the game is going to be free-to-play with some premium content you purchase via a cash shop, following the now popular F2P format.
