Nordic Games and Gothic series developer Piranha Bytes have announced Elex, a new fantasy RPG in development for current gen consoles and PC due out in winter 2016/2017.

Described as an “eclectic, lavish, exhilarating, xenial open-world RPG” (thus the name Elex), the game is set in a post-apocalyptic science fantasy universe where players enter a “huge, seamless game world” of “original characters, mutated creatures, deep moral choices and powerful action.”

"To say we are excited to see this new project unfold in the hands of Piranha Bytes is an understatement. ELEX is going to be edgy, dark, uncompromising, complex, and we love it already,“ comments Reinhard Pollice Business & Product Development Director at Nordic Games. “We will be premiering a vertical slice build at Gamescom 2015, more info will be released in due time.”

post-apocalyptic is to take with a grain of salt, according to the picture...

They are to be commended for gothic 1 and 2, but it all went to shit after that... I don't really expect anything good to come out of this.

I dunno, I personally enjoyed each of the Risen games. The first one was clearly the best, with 2 and 3 having a whole host of problems, but they did a good job in Risen 3 of returning to the previous style of, "Make any character you want," that they made their name on. Maybe I should play the Gothic games are some point. I tried Gothic 1 at one point, but had a few problems with getting used to controls (which isn't a big deal in and of itself, as I'm good at adjusting with some time), but got distracted by some other game instead. But still, I played Risen 1 and thought it was one of the best RPGs of the past decade, as it actually felt like an RPG instead of some strange stilted game with RPG elements in it like Mass Effect and other such games are (though, with that said, I do like the first Mass Effect. But ONLY the first Mass Effect). I think fans of Gothic are harder on PB's games than Fallout fans are on games with the Fallout title, which says a lot. Every game is judged not on its own merits but on, "BUT THIS ISN'T GOTHIC 2. WHAT THE FUCK. JESUS CHRIST, GO FUCK YOURSELF, PB, YOU SUCK DICK, FUCK," which I can't stand. Gothic 3, I could kind of understand such its focus is not placed the same way it is in the first two games. I think a main game in a series should stay faithful to the focus and tone of the previous games. But with Risen, there's no excuse. It's a different series (even if it was purely due to legal reasons, but it DID become it's own thing. And yes, I know Night of the Raven had pirate-y stuff, but not with the focus Risen 2 and 3 did). And now there's this new game and immediately we get, "Eh, it'll prolly be shit." Man, what happened to giving the benefit of the doubt. They never pulled a Fallout 3 on their fans, so I truly think the beating they take is unfair.

But eh, that's just my opinion.

Gothic 3 wasn't that bad.
It already have decent non-linear quest similar to NV.
and Risen 1 is kind of carbon copy of Gothic 1 and 2.
RIsen 2 and 3 are also not that bad.

Risen 2 provide multiple solution for many part of game.
and combat itself is not bad.
actually I think combat of RIsen 2 have good potential like dirty trick.

Risen 3 is also a fine RPG.
too bad that combat is dumb downed..

As a fan of PB, it's a good news to hear new game from PB.
beside, Deepsilver is one of the most stupid publisher.
I hope that Nordic game to be good enough publisher to help them.

RIsen 1 is also a PA game.
