Problems with the intelligent radscorpion in Broken Hills

I have a problem with said radscorpion. Mainly, whatever site or walkthrough I've read mentions that you CAN beat him in the agility/perception tests. Thing is, I somehow can't. I stole his spectacles and pliers before even talking to the professor, I stole all the professor's stuff, when taking the tests I have both 10 AG and 10 PE, I tried dousing it in two jets and 2 buffouts, nothing works, I can only tie with it in the agility and perception test. Heck, I even tried giving it, like, 15 healing powders for -1 perception each and STILL I can only tie in the perception test. What am I doing wrong?

I've never gotten any better than tied as well, and I've plaid it plenty of times. The way I understood it, is that you can only tie in the first two tests, and win in the final. When you win the radscorpion attacks you, being such a sore loser, making the intelligence test stand out, and the talking plant's advice meaningful.

If it is indeed possible to win the other two tests, I am just as curious as you.
 
According to the wiki, you must steal the radscorpion spectacles and use 2 Jet & 2 Buffout on him to win the two other tests.

Yeah, but I did all that, as I outlined in my post. I even gave him all those drugs and waited (not through Pip-Boy, just normal waiting) for 5 minutes so that he'd be hit with SPECIAL penalties, and nothing, only tie.

I'm pretty sure that in the unmodded game a tie is the best you can do.

In order to win the chess game you have to find the talking plant and help it (the plant is in the same location but it grows at the entrance of the mine).
