Product Placement in Video Games.

So I watched a few videos of people playing the post apocalyptic game Death Stranding and one of the things that immediately jumped at me was the use of "Monster Energy Drinks" in Kojimas game. Apparently stamina and stamina management is an important part of the game while you navigate trough the apocalyptic landscape and evading some kind of paranormal monsters. If it gets to low, your character named Sam Porter Bridge can do what though? Have a Monster Energy Drink! And it also looks exactly like the Monster Energy Drinks. And the best part is, it can be gained automatically by walking trough water as you have a filter system of sorts which has the power to create energy drinks. Monster Energy Drinks ... It kinda reminds me to Demolition Man where the only restaurant that survived the Apocalypse was Pizza Hut. And then everything was named Pizza Hut. - But it was more of a gimmick in that movie done for laughs.

Now I am not playing as many games as I did in my youth, but has this become a thing in Video games these days? Honestly I could not imagine something worse than product placement to kill the immersion of a game. Imagine like you're you playing some medieval RPG and you visit some inn or what ever ... and what is the bartender offering you? A Budweiser! Also with cool status effects! I mean wtf.

I can't be the only one to think that's ridiculous.

Alan Wake had a lot of product placement too which really rubbed me the wrong way despite some of it being practical.

Oddworld new N tasty has billboards with adverts for actual real video games which considering the games story and themes is... Retarded and gross

The CupNoodle product placement in Final Fantasy XV was pretty hlarious, mostly because the english voice actors delivered their lines completely coated in sarcasm and condescension.

I dislike product placement in movies and games, although I guess the makers get some money for it. Even styling fictive products after real products can be a bit irritating if it's very close to the original brand.
