Project V13 Screenshots and more Concept Art

i've been wondering a bit myself about fallout as an mmo ending up with a million these vault dwellers running around...but did start wondering if it might actually work some if it was a bit like A Tale in the Desert which i've never played but is apparently more about building a civilization than it is about combat. which would seem to perhaps work out potentially if handled carefully..oh high hopes for it being handled carefully /sarcasm....

come on Wasteland II

Fallout MMO doesn't seem true to the whole barren wasteland motif, but I think that it is possible. I don't play MMOs, don't like them and don't want to pay monthly just to do the same boring quests.

Now FOnline is fun. Sometimes there's a lot of people, usually just in towns/cities, but the wasteland travel I rarely come across another player (when I do, I run! ). Of course, that's map travel, this I'm assuming doesn't have a travel map (who knows, maybe it does), but the travel map makes things seem more... lonely (I can't think of words today :P).

PS: Don't hold your breath for Wasteland II. I don't see that coming out anytime soon.

or they make an unimaginably huge gameworld, it's a disaster in the making. Of course, none of this takes into account that it's not isometric, turn based, or any one of a number of reasons why this will be truly awful.

I remember reading it will contain a absolutely monumental map encompassing much of the united states. How true that is i don't know, but they wanted to have as many vaults as possible.

One thing to keep in mind. Even if Fallout Online got a few hundred thousand subscribers, it's not as if they would all be on one over-crowded server. It's a simple matter of having multiple servers, where the population is thinned out, just like every other MMO on the market.

Even if a server had 2-5 thousand people on it, I don't think that would be too out there, in terms of population.

There's a proper way to address two people at once w/o doubleposting.

@progammer.craig - you are unnecessary rude and you fail at reading comprehension

@Aphyosis - It would be cool to have many vaults, but the only way to make it work properly is to 1) make living in a vault interesting enough to discourage people from wandering off 2) limit the number of people who can choose to be a vault dweller 3) ban the usage of The Lone Wanderer, The Chosen One and the Vault Dweller nicknames and all their derivatives.

I think it's meant as more of a exploration incentive rather than living in them. Like vault 15 in FO1.

I like the FOnline: 2238 way... you are just some dude out of the wasteland. Nothing more important than this.

Yeah, like i said in the V13 thread, that's something they should work on. If it becomes another MMO where your the savior of the land, bleh.

It works in FO1 and 2 because they are single player, but multiplayer you should just be a dude surviving in a harsh reality.

Back on topic. The trees in snow city are copy-pasted!

if they make it EVE in the wasteland I'd buy it right away.

by that I mean: make the game world huge, let the players build up an economy and trade all by themselves, make it completely open pvp and force people to find someone to gang up with and create their own faction to protect their ass, make skills trainable over time with no standard rpg xp/levels, make combat complex and extremely tactical, etc.

Considering that Chris Taylor hadn't ever played it when I asked him (earlier this year?), I highly doubt it. From what I've seen, it's the best way to do an economy.

That`s a quickly patched-up screenshots from masthead earthrise engine probably :D

Aka, a prototype.

I get the impression that many of the complainers here do not understand what a prototype is as well as what purpose it serves. All major titles start with a prototype, it can use an existing engine or one built from scratch. A prototype can test intended mechanics and system. The graphics are never set in stone. This prototype is merely serving its purpose.

also, it is not a good idea to release a title that already has competition... Fallen Earth and Earth Rise are two examples. V13, if interplay was smart, will work on creating a more unique image and art style which would clearly separate it from the competition. That will take some time.

The whole point of the deal with masthead was to use their engine, so I'm not sure why some are acting surprised about this, or implying there is something wrong with it. That's how game's are made. Did anyone actually think v13 would have it's own made-from-scratch engine?

The ranting was about what you can see on the screen and not about the used engine.

I dont know what to think, like somebody else had mentioned looks too cartoony, hmmmm maybe it will grow on me .
