Logical? They capture humans to dip them into the FEV and expand their army, but also eat them and use their gory intestines to decorate every place they come across. They are all aggressive for some reason, which is never really explained. What are they even after?. You come into their only breeding ground, yet there aren't really so many mutants there at all, and they can't seem to obliterate a settlement full of children. And all the intelligent mutants, instead of leading the rest of the bunch, live as loners.
They aren't logically part of Fallout lore, they're there because Bethesda needed some more "awesome" things for us to shoot at.
And the talking Deathclaw in Navarro tells you about their origins.
I agree with you on this point, but it's still explained, and it's still logical to the Fallout lore.
It's not like if they added savage mutants without explanations.
After all, we have telepathy with a shaman into Fallout 2 for help the player (without any explanation on the telepathy btw) so I don't see why having "savage mutants" to shoot into an action-rpg is a problem, more over if their origins is explained.
Uhm. I am sorry to say this ... but that is pretty much what they did ... sure FEV, VATS and Vaults exist in the Fallout universe. But that doesn't mean that what Fallout 3 has makes really sense. Like the Encalve, the BoS and SuperMutant research beeing all reloacted to a completely different coast ... for ... what reason exactly? The things we talk about exit in Fallout. But that is pretty much all of it. Thats where the SM infestation in DC pretty much ends ... they savage mutants without any reason to be there. They are only there as target practise.
I have my own theory why Bethesda decided to add in Super Mutants and also Encalve and BoS to F3. Because otherweise you would have a very very hard time to actually reckognize Fallout 3 as actually Fallout game. The fear someone could get the idea that it's not a true Sequel! But hey it got Supermutants and Enclave and even BoS and a wasteland surounding it, it's a Fallout game! That is exactly what those might think that never really played the previous games.
