Ravaged — a post apocalyptic online multiplayer FPS

Out of curiosity, what kind of PA settings would people like to see that have not been done yet or barely been done.
The Road (I think it's called), the movie, had some nice post-apoc trees and winter.

I agree that it was nice (and it was also very cool that the original source of the cataclysm was never revealed) but what do you mean with "Winter"?

Also, my own little project Wendigo, medieval-with-guns/modern-without-electricity-or-petrolium post-apoc, though my own take on the subject is kind of more pre/mid-apoc...

Are you still working on it? I've read about it years ago and the link in your sig has it's latest entry in 2009 as well.

ugh at the faction names.

BETTER NAMES!!!

The evil guys can be called "The Fellowship for a Better Tomorrow"

The good guys can be called "Evansville Protectorate"

Winter is oncoming in the story - the movie portrays the setting as late fall, which adds an extra layer of survival to the story that's not often touched on in post-apoc settings.

I want a normal PA setting. I don't understand, but everyone has to have some sort of gimmick to help their setting stand out. What about normal people just trying to survive a normal collapse of society? The Road is a good example. Probably why out of all the PA style games coming out, I am Alive is the only one I would want to play.

Well this looks pretty meh. And everything has already been said so it would be redundant to comment more on the meh-ness of the setting they describe.

I, for one, think it looks cool and fun.

For an online fps all the nitpicky things that everyone has said about it (setting, faction names, originality) are irrelevant imo. The only thing thats going to matter is how much fun it is to shoot your neighbor in the head.

I mean, is any fps original? They are all retreads.

You are right. Most FPS aren't original. That is why I hate most of them. A game should be original and have a decent story no matter what the genre is. This game looks like Rage except without the big budget. Whats the easiest way to make a PA game without developing the plot? Make it set in New York with two lame factions fighting each other.

FPS are getting worse and worse. I will reserve further judgement until more info is released, but the overall "meh-ness" of this game sticks out.

MY GOD... the vehicles are music to my ears it sounds like a real quad or trike it reminds me of a raptor 660 5 valve or the likes of.

I would like to see a PA game where the world was flooded and the sea level is slowly rising until eventually there is no land. You'd have lots of small islands (mountaintops or skyscraper roofs) and a large underwater area with countless ruins. You'd travel by ship or submersible.

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

I know, BUT Zelda isn't a real RPG. Setting was perfect though.

I like the floodworld-PARPG idea, but I think it would be cool if it was populated with highly evolved dolphins that have basically like replaced people, so it would be like planet of the apes, except with dolphins.

edit: also having, like, apocalyptic Beavers (maybe they could be like tolkein dwarves except they're super advanced cyborgs or something) it would make sense because they are amphibious, so really they would be a natural fit.

That was a shitload of likes.

Mutated Beavers would be more like comic relief than anything. I don't care how scary it is, a mutated beaver would make me laugh my ass off. Maybe that's how they get you. They wait until you laugh then they build a dam out of your body parts. I like that idea. Anyone else think Cyborg Beavers are a good idea?

There is a movie called "Water World" any ways this game is pre alpha this only vehicle physics not game play kind of surprised some of you are that ignorant.

Any how it may not be original but, if remember right RAGE is a pitiful pile of broken code.

I don't think it is ignorant to critique a game for being unoriginal or cliche...even if it is Alpha. PA games have flooded the market, and many of them are bland as fuck. Not to mention that the shooter genre is over-saturated with crap games for the most part. Nothing about this game appears to be unique in anyway, so I don't see what the big deal is.

You can drive a ATV through the desert - Amazing! Oh sweet there is the Statue of Liberty!!!!! I wonder if there will be a crazed band of raiders that wear leather jackets too?

The gameplay isn't really what bothers me about it - It's the story and bland setting. I almost face-palmed when I read the info on the story. If that is the best they can come up with then it's pretty pitiful. Rage may have been a mediocre game, but it is more interesting than this game. I hope there is more to it though. Time will tell I guess.... :|

LOL are you guys ever jaded! ... OK well so am I, I guess. :}

OK, so there's nothing particularly original here, but it could be fun depending. Time to put on my "wait and see" t-shirt I guess.

Also, a lot of an online game is the community...depending on how what kinds of people the game is designed to attract, it could be fun, shallow, an annoying gankfest, you really can't tell. Although based on the video I'd lean towards "endless deathmatch." Not too promising, but I guess we'll see.

Wow, I thought I was being creative there for a second.
The future world from the "Go-God-Go" episodes would be a fun setting for a RPG. Armies of intelligent otters and such.

Either that or the PA world from Zardoz.
