References to Tactics

While Bethesda initially said they will consider both Fallout Tactics and Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel as non-canon, looks like they changed their mind and eventually decided to consider the story of Fallout Tactics more or less canon where it does not contradict previous Fallouts (the inconsistent parts are non-canon).

There is at least one reference to the Midwestern Brotherhood of Steel from Tactics. Scribe Rothchild says: "There's also a small detachment in Chicago, but they're off the radar. Gone rogue. Long story."

Could also just be an in-game way of saying those guys in the midwest have nothing to do with the rest of us... In other words, non-canon.

Weird thing is, Fallout 3 to me seems more likely to take place in a universe other than the Fallout 3 universe.

For all Tactics mistakes:

- Hairy talking Deathclaws
- The Calculator and its pacification robots (I still like them and do not hate the idea)
- Mistaken lore that the BOS comes from a military Vault

I still think it is closer to Fallout 1 and 2

I noticed that little nod and smiled a bit when it was made. I was actually one of the ones who enjoyed tactics and also just like when past games are made mention in newer ones.

Its fun when things connect!

FO3 has shown me that Fallout: Tactics wasn't too shabby in terms of following cannon.

Still though, a nice nod to Tactics from Beth here.

Talking deathclaws isn't anything new.

Well Tactics was suppose to take place before Fallout 2, in Fallout 2 it was revealed that the Enclave wanted to use Deathclaws as some sort of soldiers and they used FEV to make them more intelligent.

So the problem is both distance, and the time period as Tactics takes places some time before the supposedly return of the Enclave to the mainland.

Since it's left unknown (and not directly conflicting with what's known), there's the possibility that someone else had been tooling around with the east coast deathclaws.

Wouldn't surprise me in the least if there actually were. In fact, nothing would after witnessing a battle between some bitch dressed like an ant and a dude dressed like a robot.

The waste can do bad things to ones mind :P

I asked Emil and he said that they consider the high-level events of Tactics canon, but not the details that contradict FO1 and 2, the graphics style, the choice of modern weaponry, etc.

AFAIK, some of the original Fallout devs, like Chris Taylor, have a similar approach to Tactics.

That seems fair enough.

Srcribe Jameson mentions Chichago...as in FO:T?

I was just talking to Scribe Jameson, she mention that the brotherhood has been killing Super Mutants for decade in California...then in Chicago, now, that's weird to me. It was my understanding that Tactics wasn't exactly cannon, so, I mean... does this change that? Or does it just mean that the brotherhood has been in Chicago before and Hairy Deathclaws and the Calculator still aren't exactly cannon?

While Tactics is an OK game I never considered anything in it canon because most of its story and background flavoring is silly and stupid.

Also, it's a spin-off.
Well, I guess that doesn't mean much, but it's a spin-off that adds really stupid crap to the lore so it's not like it's Ultima Underworld that actually comprehensively and accurately addresses established lore in its respective series.

EDIT: You done gone and double-posted this topic.

I...the high-level events of Tactics.....
What exactly are those? Just the end or what? Because the BOS in Tactics are the "knights of the wasteland" like in Fallout 3.

I suspect the high level events cited is simply that there is a BOS faction operating in the Chicago area operating on its own and it recruits outsiders.
