[Request] Weapon ideas!

Hello all.

Please tell me your ideas for new weapons.
This is what I have this far:

Small guns:

1. .50 cal sniper rifle (of course!), to balance it out Im thinking of maybe making the range shorter than the sniper rifle (45) or to make AP cost really high like 8! but then I dont know if the baddies in the game have that many APs.

2. Remington 700 rifle, this is the most common bolt action rifle in America (I think) and both the M24 and M40 are variations of this rifle. This will replace the default sniper rifle in the game (PSG-1)

3. PSG-1, Im thinking of include this weapon as a unique gun (only 1 in the whole game) since Im removing the Enfield XL-70E rifle from the game. Im thinking this will be identical to the Remington 700 sniper rifle, only it will require 1 less AP.

4. M4A1 carbine, this will replace the Steyre Aug.

5. Not exactly sure what this is called, but its a semi automatic grenade launcher with a revolver type magazine. I found the sprite for this gun the other day, I think its for multi-player only.
The 40mm fletche + this gun will be a night mare. possibly use this as a unique weapons also.

6. HK21, this is essentially a beefed up, belt fed rifle. maybe as a unique weapon.

7. HK UMP, as a good alternative to the tommy gun .45

Also Im thinking of tweaking damage/range of most other weapons and getting rid of a few weapons altogether.

Big guns and Energy weapons:

Nitro Express .600 Elephant gun.

I was thinking of including the AT4 disposable rocket launcher. dosent seem possible, so Im scrapping this idea.

Obviously I need more ideas here. :)

I swear that there's a mac 10 and desert eagle sprite at JJ's either in Macbeth's sprite pack or Sergalio's.

Maybe both.

And that rocket launcher won't work for a ground sprite, a ground sprite should be at the same perspective as the rest of the items in the game. Or it'll stick out like a sore thumb.

I stopped updating this thread, cause I thought I was talking to myself, Ive already made a few of those sprites listed up there, and Id be happy to email them to an admin if they want to put them in the files section or something.

And yeah I know theres a Desert Eagle and a MAC-10 in Seraglios weapons pack, but I didnt like them, but I did decide to go with the Desert Eagle anyway.

What I really need now is ideas for new weapons, just put them out there, no matter what they are. :D

Oh and yeah the ground sprite for the SMAW will probably stick out, but I dont mind (plus I got alot of red stuff from the background in but I liked that too, so I left it in there), I really disliked the old one.

Is there a chance that the weapons sprites Im making, wont work in the game even though they do work in spray 1.1?

You can upload direct to the files section (if the file isn't too big) then an Admin should approve them, when they get around to it, and move them to the right section.

If you're doing a 30.06 springfield ammo sprite I'd be interested, and 30.06 carbine (?) would be handy.

If that's it then quite honestly it's dreadful. I don't see what's wrong with the old one, I mean how often do you actually see it on the ground in the game, it's usually in someone or something's inventory.

You mean you haven't checked yet?

Make a simple test map and add all your new weapons so you can try them out and see what the sprites look like. It's quite possible that they don't line up properly or a touch too big in the equipment slot (don't forget you've got the mode, ammo and targeting graphics in the same window to contend with.

30-06 is the same thing as .30 cal (the -06 is the years it was adopted; 1906)

To call it 30-06 just sounds more official, so all Im doing is changing the names here, not the sprite.

Im doing the same with a bunch of weapons and ammo in the game (and since Im getting rid of the british .303 ammo, Im using the sprite as 7.62 NATO), and in case of weapons, I will most likely tweak them alittle. the entity, not the sprite.

I was gonna get rid of all WW2 era weapons, but there are large numbers of Garands (.30 cal) in civilian hands, from survivalists to hunters who like them because of their low prices, high power and sturdy design, so Im leaving those in.

The M1 carbine fires the cut down version (much less power) of the .30 cal ammunition, and if I recall correctly was produced in much smaller numbers, and its not a popular civilian weapon.
So I wont be including it.


I really disliked the old ground sprite for the Rocket Launcher, not only did I find it ugly, something about it annoyed me, dont ask me why. :?


I havent made entities for my weapons yet, only sprites, which is a pretty time consuming process with photoshop, but DaK was nice enough to help me get RedView49_3_1 to work on my computer.

But yeah, Ill test them all as soon Ive made the entities, it just occured to me that I would feel like a flaming asshole if I made a whole bunch of sprites that work in spray, but dont work in the game. :shock:
 
Ah I have the M1 in HoS but no ammo sprite as yet. :)

You don't need to make the weapon entities, well not fully. Just a test entity then just edit it to point to the new sprites. Then when you make other sprites you can just change the image path.

Put them into your test map so you can see them in the game.

Why dont you use .223 sprite from the classic FO sprite pack? I would.

Im using the sprite for the "grenade pistol" as a flare gun, to give those pyromaniacs alittle range. :twisted:

Im also thinking of including a pistol chambered in some idiotically (for a hand gun) large caliber, just in case someone who likes those downloads my mod and decides to give it a go.

Also for raiders and such, Im making a blunderbuss, this was inspired from the musket idea someone had at the FO3 weapons wishlist thread. Raiders and other low tech scumbags will be armed with them, but they will only have 1 round each (to represent the long time it would take to reload them, and therefore not a good idea during combat).

Also Im including the magneto laser pistol and the turbo plasma rifle. Maybe Ill make a "Laser SMG" or some such thing just to give the players another choice for fully automatic laser weapons.

I have no ideas for new heavy weapons, so Im thinking of this:

Laser carbine or plasma SMG. Change the laser gattling to a plasma one while you are at it.

I've used a hand mortar to replace the grenade launcher but that's more a period thing for my mod. It doesn't really add anything when you've already got rocket launchers and rotary grenade launchers.

Sounds interesting, Ill have to think about that, maybe Ill do a plasma gatling to go with the laser gatling? It will have higher damage, but shorter range, just like the rifles.

Im also thinking about making a "plasma cannon", I was thinking how come there are no big guns based on energy weapons? why are all of them based on old timey technology? (according to this logic the gatling laser should be counted as a big gun, but Im not change it to a big gun).

Then I realized there are no Energy weapons with area damage, like there are small guns (grenade launcher) and big guns (rocket launcher), so Ill probably will make a plasma cannon with a small blast radius (3?) but it will be in the Big Gun weapons category.

Here is what Ive been doing tonight, the laser SMG , based on the picture of a movie prop (I think) I found online, I just added the trigger, trigger guard, stripes and a few wires, although I shouldnt have, cause theyre barely visible in the right size in the sprite:

Change the name and edit the entity to use plasma light effects. If you think about it why build a gatling laser? Why not a big arsed super cooled laser that continously fires? Whereas the plasma fires a glop of superheated gas so the gattling principle is much more suited.

Well they were big guns in the RPGs weren't they, I got the impression that the plasma rifle replaced the squad support weapons. But then the weapons have been more and more screwed up since FO2.

All energy weapons big and small (except grenades) use the same skill rules of the game. You could make a plasma rocket or maybe make an emp and plasma 40mm grenades for the launcher.

There is the spasm sub already in the game, only used in MP you could use it's sprite for a laser/plasma carbine.
 
You make a good point, Plasma Rocket, hm.
The thing is the rocket launcher is pretty ass kicking as it is, I dont want to make it too good.

And I still have no new ideas for Big Guns (except the Elephant Rifle).
Maybe I should move that semi automatic grenade launcher to the big guns category?

Oh and I was actually thinking of maybe using the spasm gun sprite as the plasma cannon, although if I do make the plasma cannon, it will be an energy weapon.

: Also Im thinking of making a satchel charge type thing. Toward the end of the game, I have my slayer guy knock those big ass robots out all the time, and I think its silly to stand there and pound it for 20 minutes after its out to kill it.

I see 2 ways of doing this: 1. as a grenade with very short range (8?) and high damage, although this could be abused.

2. as the explosives already in the game, the problem with that is, even when set on 10 seconds (shortest possible time I think) it take the damn thing a good 10 turns to detonate, if I could some how cut this time down to say 2 turns...

What do you think?
 
Oh yeah, I forgot all about those.

I looked up the remote charges or whatever theyre called (theyre in the traps folder) and they had really low damage, So ill make a high damage satchel charge, I might call it shaped charge or Plasma charge or something.

I was thinking, to avoid exploitation, maybe I should set its damage radius to 0 (but then it might do 0 damage?) or to set it to 1, and use it by "stealing" it into the big robots after theyre passed out.

But then they wont arm, will they? Dont I have to put them in someones hand then "use" them for them to arm?

Maybe Ill just set the radius to 1 and plant them right next to those big bastards after theyve been knocked out.
