Rome: Total War

Where'd That 6th Toe Come From?
I decided to take a break from crushing barbarians under my legions to recomend this game to you all. It's truly great, almost flawless, and improves on just about everything in medieval. If you like Turn based strategy, then this has big potential to become your holy grail.

And on a very important note, the game actually runs better then medieval on my pc. Wich is surprising, i never expected a game this pretty would run well on a GeForce 2 mx.

If there is interest, i might chime in later with a more detailed overview, now back to crushing those hairy folk.

How well does it run? I've got a geforce2 mx as well, and I'm worried about how much stuff can be displayed.

I will get it soon. I never played Medievil, but i got Shogun: Warlord Edition, and i Play it as much as i can. The Total War series is a must have for Strategy lovers.

I've been planning to buy it for a year or so, even more, but now I really don't have time. I'll just get Fable, as it's so short. Maybe for the holidays or this summer though.

Look. When I bought Shogun and much later Medieval I bunkered in, gaming till I dropped. How the hell do you think my exam results will look this autumn if I buy the game? Fable is short and direct, something I need right now to satisty my gamer spirit. Console games can be a real saviour sometimes.

Do not speak to me about heresy, foul follower of the balsphemous and dogmatic scriptures of Sovietus VII. I should order that world cleansed in the blessed name of our Lord, the Immortal Emperor of Mankind.

This is what i found most surprising, it runs pretty sweet, on low settings of course. Even the big battles with 2 full armies run at a pretty constant framerate... Infact, i only had really showstopping lag on one of the historical battles so far, the siege of spart or something, but this one has about 2 and a half complete armies, and takes place on a massive city. Still runs better then even mid size battle in open field on medieval.

Try the demo, take a look at the battle of river trebia, pretty massive, elephants and all of that and no hiccups. Also notice my machine isn't any good too outside the Vid card, a 1.4 ghz athlon (the lowest clocked XP) and 256 pc100, and i'm on windows xp....

I must agree, how could one so unworthy be blessed with the game? Those who understand the true historical significance and with knowledge of the period. Those who are both history buffs and computer game fans.

Even though that sentence is quite unfinished, I agree wholeheartedly.

I want to melt the hole in the cd so I might properly make love to it. I want to tatoo it into my skin. I want to wear it as an earing, so all might know of my undying love for this game.

[GrammarNazi]Don't CDs already have holes in them? So you would be enlarging a hole, not making one.[/GrammarNazi]

And yes, it works fine under a GF2Ultra (AKA a GF4MX460). Albiet this is with 256MB AGP aperture under 1GB PC3200 and an Athlon64(for those who don't know, it performs like a P4 at 5Ghz)

Dunno, girls tend to be more fun than plastic cd's...

Don't be cruel Wooz, at least he has a chance with a CD.

Killa^2, why are you being a "Grammar Nazi," wouldn't "Logic Nazi" make more sense?

Well, I shall sally forth to purchase the game today, or Evil Genius, most likely both actually. Sure I may starve from using up more than my allotted budget, I'll have to subsist on cheap cafeteria food for a bit (damn, if only I didn't have to purchase that new network card, then I would have some extra money).

ok, i "typoed" sparta there, and i just said "the siege of sparta or something" because "the siege of sparta" isn't the name of the battle, and i wanted to avoid confusion. Satisfied now? And i gotta admit despite liking history (i tought about majoring in history, then remembered i might want to have money to eat), classical history isn't my favorite period. But i know how the fuck to spell sparta.

So it's good then?

Is it as good as actually recreating medieval battles though?

For a Pagan you certainly don't understand it's history :(

Ancient, Medieval Era starts with the explosion of Islam, or arguably a little sooner with the fall of Romulus Augustulus.

It's really, really good. REally really really. I live for this shit. Slaughtering heathens as the Zoroastrian Parthinians
